On Friday, Rishi Sunak said sorry for not attending an international gathering on Omaha Beach in France, which saw the attendance of the US, France and Germany leaders. He left the event the day before just to participate in a TV interview back home in the UK.

Aside from criticisms from politicians, he also received backlash from veterans. Ken Hay, who is 98 years old, expressed his disappointment by stating on Sky News that the individual in question was a letdown to the nation.

Addressing a discussion hosted by the BBC on Friday evening, Penny Mordaunt, the Conservative Party's leader in Parliament, restated her contentious assertion that the Labour Party would increase domestic taxes by £2,000.

In simpler language: Ms Mordaunt said that her boss should have stayed at the D-Day event, but she appreciated his apology. She said that he apologized not just to the veterans, but to everyone because he was representing everyone.

The former member of the Royal Naval reserves stated: "I hail from Portsmouth. I've previously held the position of defence secretary. And what I desire is for all former servicemen and women to feel valued by the close of this week."

Tonight, my aim is to persuade you about some ideas that hold significance for them and for their lasting impression. And I cannot achieve that unless I am honest and forthright with you on the matter.

Nevertheless, despite her request to avoid turning the issue into a political matter, her opponents relentlessly criticized the prime minister's verdict.

Stephen Flynn, who represents the SNP in Westminster, expressed his stance on a prime minister who prioritizes their political career over serving the public. He also emphasized that a prime minister who neglects the service and sacrifices made by Normandy war veterans is unworthy of the position.

Therefore, it is our duty as citizens to perform our patriotic duty and vote for a new political party that isn't the Conservatives.

Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, expressed strong disapproval towards the prime minister's decision, calling it a total disgrace and citing it as an example of unpatriotic behavior. Farage went on to state that if the prime minister truly shared the same values as the British people, he would have never entertained the idea of not attending the significant global event. Farage continued by emphasizing how removed the prime minister was from the thoughts and feelings of the public.

Rhun ap Iorwerth, the leader of Plaid Cymru, expressed his opinion that it was not appropriate for the prime minister to choose the day of commemorations to focus on his own political future. He also disapproved of Mr. Farage's use of the occasion for a photo opportunity.

In the meantime, Daisy Cooper, who is the deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats, shared that her grandfather who served in the war once rescued his closest comrade after he got shot in the head and fell off the tank while crossing the water.

She criticized Mr. Sunak's choice as "politically shameful". Moreover, she stated that if her grandfather were present when the prime minister chose to leave, she would consider that to be completely and utterly unforgivable, as she does now.

During the recent television program, candidates from seven political parties in the upcoming election discussed various topics such as healthcare, housing, immigration, and taxation.

Angela Rayner of the Labour party and Ms. Mordaunt engaged in a heated discussion, particularly regarding the criticized allegations made by the Conservatives that Labour would increase taxes by £2,000 in the upcoming parliament.

During a debate with Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer on Tuesday, Mr Sunak repeatedly used a certain figure. However, a high-ranking Treasury official declared the following day that this figure "should not be claimed to have been created by the civil service". Additionally, multiple economic experts challenged the validity of the numbers.

Ms Mordaunt repeated her statement during a heated argument with Ms. Rayner. She also stated that if Labour comes into power, they would introduce a dozen fresh taxes.

The deputy leader of the Labour party declared that the government is spreading untruthful information and criticized them for increasing taxes to an unprecedented level while holding power.

However, the critical comments allowed the rest of the people on stage an opportunity to tease the duo. Carla Denyer, the co-leader of the Green Party, remarked, "Oh dear, that was not very dignified, was it?"
