Penny Mordaunt: A Brief Introduction

Penny Mordaunt is a British Conservative politician who has been serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Portsmouth North since 2010. She was also the Secretary of State for Defence from 2019 to 2020 under Prime Minister Boris Johnson's administration. Before entering politics, Mordaunt served as a member of the Royal Naval Reserve for over a decade and worked as a magician's assistant, charity worker, and communications consultant.

Mordaunt's Political Career

Mordaunt's political career began in 2003 when she was elected as a councillor in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. She then contested the 2005 general election as the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Portsmouth North but lost to the incumbent MP. However, she won the seat in the 2010 general election and has been re-elected in every subsequent election. During her time in Parliament, Mordaunt has held various ministerial roles, including Minister of State for Disabled People, Work and Health, and Minister of State for International Development. She is also a strong advocate for the Armed Forces and has been appointed as the first female Minister for Armed Forces in the UK.
