So sad - We have lost another massive Newcastle United fan
It was up to our cherished Newcastle United to bring home some hope on Sunday for the discouraged folks I live with close to Tynemouth.
We were told right from the beginning that our good friend and devoted Newcastle United supporter, Richie Smith, had passed away unexpectedly.
It's truly heartbreaking; he was just in his mid-sixties.
I cannot fully express what a wonderful person Richie was. As the guys gathered together in sadness, a few Sunday dinners had to be postponed.
The moment I noticed tears starting to fill the eyes of former Toon goalkeeper Tony Bell, it hit me just how significant the situation was. After all, Tony is really tough—there's no denying that.
With a heavy heart, I made my way to the Co-op in Tynemouth Village to share some unfortunate news with the staff. After that, Edd and I went to the club together.
Right now, Newcastle's Super Sunday matchup with Wolves at Molineux was the furthest thing from my thoughts.
After having a few beers, I enjoyed a good conversation with my old mate Ralphy, just like I do every Sunday. We talked about Sunderland's disappointing loss to Plymouth Argyle the day before. Ralphy and I both agreed that his team simply lacks the experience needed to be considered a serious contender in the Championship at this point in the season.
In another match, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City secured another victory at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. It looks like Erling Haaland is unstoppable yet again. He's an extraordinary player.
Many of you would likely agree that it was amusing and a nice change to witness both teams from Liverpool falter in the Premier League over the weekend.
For me, it felt like choosing the better option between two bad choices when Villa came back from being two goals down to beat the struggling Scouse Mackems. I can’t wait for the day these fortunate guys finally get relegated.
There's nothing quite as satisfying as watching Liverpool and their arrogant, condescending fans take a loss at Anfield. I've always found the song "You'll Never Walk Alone" to be painfully cringeworthy. So, hats off to Nuno Espirito Santo and Nottingham Forest for putting them in their place!
Although they secured a victory against Southampton, I’m not impressed with ten Hag’s Manchester United. I anticipate that the true Manchester United will finish at least 10 points ahead of them this season.
The same applies to Chelsea, who secured a late victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. They aren't anything remarkable.
In the earlier Sunday match, it was expected that Arsenal would easily defeat their less skilled local opponents, Spurs.
When it was time for our game, my daughter and grandson had already picked up Little Edd. I had been optimistic all week about our chances of winning this match.
Molineux has historically posed a tough challenge for Newcastle United, and the local team always appears ready to take on a spirited contest against the Geordies.
After going into halftime down 1-0, Eddie showed courage by making the essential changes to the lineup.
Our two goals in the last fifteen minutes were both executed beautifully. Fabian Schar and Harvey Barnes are truly outstanding players.
We secured an important three points and continue our unbeaten streak. Accumulating 10 points from our first four league matches is quite impressive.
I didn't get as many post-match calls as I typically do, but I can see why that happened.
Big Richie predicted that Newcastle United would secure a spot in the top four of the Premier League once more this season. He had a nice payout during the 2022/23 season when Eddie and the Hotrods put on an impressive performance.
I believe we're on track to achieve it again this season, and I don’t see any reason why we wouldn't be able to.
When I finally sat down for my postponed Sunday dinner, I played some vinyl records to pay tribute to my late friend. I enjoyed songs from Hank Mizell, the Stray Cats, and Matchbox.
Richie Smith, you will forever be a devoted supporter of Newcastle United and a true Rockabilly Rebel through and through. We will all truly miss you.
