"Brentford Loses 4-2 To Newcastle United In 2023/24 Premier League"
"Barnes, Murphy, And Isak Score; Brentford Down By 3 At Halftime. Toney's Goal Reversed By VAR."
Thomas Frank decided to switch up the team that won against Bournemouth 2-1 last weekend. He made four substitutions: Mads Roerslev, Zanka, Mathias Jensen, and Yoane Wissa joined the lineup, while Kristoffer Ajer, Nathan Collins, Mikkel Damsgaard, and Keane Lewis-Potter sat this one out.
The fresh addition to the team, Yunus Emre Konak, was included in the roster for the match day, marking his debut presence.
Within the first three minutes of the match, Brentford successfully scored a goal and placed the ball in the net.
Roerslev passed the ball within the team to Jensen, who sent Bryan Mbeumo past the defenders from Newcastle.
Nkoulou, who plays for Cameroon's national team, quickly moved past Lewis Hall and passed the ball low to Ivan Toney for an easy goal. However, the goal was canceled after VAR ruled that Jensen's position had been offside in the play leading up to the goal.
Six minutes later, the duo teamed up once more. Mbeumo took advantage of Hall's mistake, progressed into the box and delivered a pass to Toney, whose shot was blocked by Nick Pope's extended leg.
Shortly thereafter, Joelinton failed to score despite having a clear shot at the net when Alexander Isak beat Ethan Pinnock in a one-on-one confrontation on the right and crossed the ball low into the box.
On the 21st-minute mark, the visiting team managed to score first. Jacob Murphy set up Bruno Guimarães on the right of the pitch, who then delivered a cross towards Harvey Barnes at the back post. The latter managed to get ahead of Mark Flekken and score a goal with a diving header.
Newcastle believed they had scored a second goal just four minutes after their first. Sean Longstaff shot the ball into the net from 12 yards away, after being set up by Isak. However, the striker had barely gone over the line of offside when he received the ball from Barnes earlier in the move.
Eddie Howe's team then increased their lead by scoring two goals within a span of two minutes.
Pinnock who was the final player of the Bees failed to kick the ball away from their side, which gave Isak an opportunity to move towards the goal. Reguilón quickly ran to provide defense, resulting in Murphy being left with an easy goal shot at the back post.
Just a few moments into the match's second half, Murphy snatched the ball away from Reguilón and passed it to Guimarães. Then, the Brazilian made a precise assist to get Isak through, and the striker let the ball go past his legs and into the far corner.
During the added second minute of gameplay, Flekken swiftly moved towards his right and effectively blocked Isak's attempt at scoring a second point with his powerful wrist.
The Bees had their last opportunity of the half when Reguilón made his way to the edge of the field and sent a high pass into the box for Wissa. However, Wissa's attempt missed the target, sailing over the crossbar.
Guimarães Scores, Bees' Momentum Paused. Janelt And Wissa Cut The Gap
In the beginning of the second half, The Bees started off aggressively. Christian Nørgaard separated towards the left and delivered a pass into the penalty box, and Wissa tried to score with a quick header that narrowly missed the post.
Shortly after, Janelt provided Brentford with an opportunity to recover.
Wissa, positioned within Jensen's vicinity, skillfully protected the ball and smoothly passed it to the German player, who successfully scored a goal with a side-footed shot that dodged past Pope's defense.
After 61 minutes of the game, Fabian Schär took a free-kick from the edge of the area. However, the ball took an unintended deflection and ended up reaching Isak. Isak attempted a shot towards Flekken's right post, but unfortunately, he missed.
On the opposite side, Pope managed to divert Toney's header downwards after Roerslev sent in the ball from the right.
The Bees managed to score another goal at the 70 minute mark, and it was truly an exceptional display of skill.
Flekken made a long kick that Toney flicked on. Wissa then took control of the ball and managed to bypass two defenders as he made his way towards the edge of the box. His shot had a curl to it and ultimately ended up in the net after hitting the inside of the post. Wissa is from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In the match, Newcastle believed they were awarded a penalty when Hall fell due to Mbeumo's obstruction, but upon review, the VAR determined that it was just outside the designated area. Nonetheless, the team capitalized on the play by taking a free kick, which led to Flekken deflecting the ball before Guimarães reacted quickly and scored on the rebound.
During the last minute of regular play, Pope stooped down to catch the close-range header from substitute Yehor Yarmoliuk.
Toney hit a free-kick too high, missing the target right before the end of the game, while the referee’s whistle signaled the end of the third season of Brentford in the Premier League.
Brentford played with a formation of 4-3-3 in their recent match. Their goalkeeper was Flekken, and Roerslev was playing as a defender until he was substituted for Ghoddos in the 63rd minute. Zanka, Pinnock, and Reguilón were the other defenders. Reguilón was also substituted later on in the match for Maupay. As for the midfielders, Nørgaard, Janelt, and Jensen played throughout most of the game until they were substituted towards the end of the match. Janelt and Jensen were replaced by Schade and Damsgaard respectively, while Wissa was replaced by Yarmoliuk in the 83rd minute. Toney, Mbeumo, and Wissa formed the attacking trio for Brentford throughout the match. However, as aforementioned, Wissa was eventually substituted out for Yarmoliuk towards the end of the game.
The players who did not play were Valdimarsson, Lewis-Potter, Trevitt, and Konak.

"Close Call: Almost Achieved Something Big"
Coach Thomas Frank expressed his disappointment in finishing the season with a loss, yet acknowledged the admirable qualities of his team's resilience.
The manager of the Bees stated that the match was enjoyable, but winning is always a more satisfying experience.
I believed we were the stronger team before they scored their first goal. After that, the tide turned slightly in their favor.
After that, they managed to score twice. It was the result of two errors on our part, which is quite unfortunate.
In the latter part of the game, the athletes displayed remarkable traits of character and mindset.
"We were able to get back into the game and almost secured a favorable outcome."
Maupay: All Good Things Must End
Neal Maupay, the main striker for Brentford, has shared his thoughts on his last game wearing the Bees jersey. He entered the game as a substitute during the team's loss against Newcastle on Sunday.
The player who plays in the front, for the second time in the team, got an excellent response from the fans at the stadium. He came in for Sergio Reguilón, who will go back to his actual club Everton after his loan period finishes in west London.
He expressed his gratitude and acknowledged his fortunate circumstances to have received the assistance and affection they have bestowed upon him. He extended heartfelt thanks to them for their contributions, and he emphasized how wonderful it has been.
It has been quite the journey, but I believe that all good things must eventually come to a close. Today marks the concluding chapter of my time with Brentford.
"But I possess recollections which will endure forever."
