Newcastle United may look towards Barcelona for defensive signing
Newcastle United might consider bringing in a new defender from Barcelona.
FC Barcelona is aware that they have not achieved all of their goals for the summer transfer window. In addition to signing Dani Olmo, the team is also looking to bring in more new players. However, Barcelona's finances are still a limiting factor at the moment.
New information is coming out saying that Deco and Barcelona have more things they want to achieve during this transfer period, but they first need to allow some players to leave before they can focus on their own goals. Regrettably, Barcelona has been facing challenges in getting players to depart this summer.
Nevertheless, amidst the current state of confusion and unpredictability, Barcelona may have found some hope. Reports from Mundo Deportivo suggest that Newcastle United, a team in the English Premier League, are considering Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen as a potential backup option for their primary defensive target.
Marc Guehi, a defender from England who is currently on the roster for Crystal Palace, was the top choice for Newcastle. However, Palace has been turning down all of their offers, forcing Newcastle to search for other possible options.
In their opinion, Christensen could be a good choice to think about. He has experience in the Premier League with Chelsea and has proven his skills there. Although he currently plays for FC Barcelona in Spain, signing him would not be too risky.
Luckily for Barça, this could work in their favor too. Right now, it seems obvious that Christensen may not have a guaranteed spot in Hansi Flick’s starting lineup. Even in the recent win against Valencia, he was not in the starting XI, as the German coach chose to start Pau Cubarsi, Marc Bernal, and Marc Casado instead.
He came on as a replacement player when Cubarsi was close to getting a red card. Additionally, other injured Barcelona players will come back soon and likely start in their positions. This would lower Christensen's rank in the team and could lead to less time on the field for him.
With all these things in mind, it might not be out of the question for Barcelona to sell the player if they receive a good offer. Since he was initially signed for free, any transfer would result in a profit. It would also free up salary space for Barcelona to sign new players and potentially make more additions to the team.
