An unhealthy atmosphere brewing ahead of Newcastle United playing Nottingham Forest
There are some Newcastle United supporters who do not act the right way.
Yet, it seems like only a small (but outspoken!) group of Newcastle United supporters feel this way.
Supporters who have worked themselves into a state of excessive pessimism just 11 days into the new season after only two games.
Many Newcastle United fans seem to want their team to lose against Nottingham Forest, so they can justify their high levels of negativity and unleash their full wrath if and when Newcastle inevitably lose.
I'm not sure if nowadays there are just too many people paying too much attention to foolish individuals on social media. These clowns are craving attention and clicks so badly that they will say anything to get noticed, especially those who are trying to profit from being excessively negative.
Before tonight's game, it seems like a small group of Newcastle United fans are sending a clear message to everyone at the club - the head coach, owners, management, players, even the tea lady. They are basically saying, "If you lose tonight, there will be consequences!"
To me, it appears that regardless of the circumstances surrounding a loss, the outcome remains the same: the public will criticize the team, labeling the first week and a half of the season as a catastrophe. The club is believed to be in turmoil, with individuals being publicly singled out and held accountable for the defeat.
If you believe that the first few games of this season have been the worst in the history of Newcastle United, then you must be a new or inexperienced supporter of the team.
I am still amazed that many fans are using the Southampton match as evidence of how poorly things are going for the club this season.
Instead of being a fantastic achievement, Newcastle United's players demonstrated their determination, teamwork, and defensive skills after losing a player early in the game. Despite being outnumbered, they managed to keep a clean sheet and score the winning goal.
I think it's funny that many Newcastle United fans (and the media) are making a big deal out of about 20 minutes when it was an even match and NUFC didn't play their usual aggressive style. In the first few minutes, Newcastle did press high, but Southampton were calm and played around it. This made the players and Eddie Howe play it safe and drop back to avoid giving up a goal. If it had stayed even, I believe Newcastle would have improved and eventually won by a couple of goals with some good substitutions.
In Bournemouth, the outcome of the match was not surprising. Despite Newcastle initially playing better in the first 15-20 minutes and towards the end of the game, they were ultimately outperformed in the middle. The statistics, including possession, shots on goal, and touches in the opponent's box, all indicate Newcastle's dominance. The goalkeeper had to make impressive saves to prevent a loss, with Neto standing out as the star player.
Even though the season didn't start perfectly, it's not a complete disaster either.
Once again, as some have mentioned, Gordon, Willock, and Trippier are still trying to reach peak physical condition for matches. The two players who represented England at the Euros took longer breaks, while Willock is returning from a serious injury.
Next, we have players like Tonali who are back in action, Wilson who is expected to return after Sunday's match against Spurs, and Schar who is also on his way back. In addition, we hope to see Botman, Lascelles, and Lewis Miley returning in the near future.
It has been a challenging process, but there are reports from reputable media sources indicating that Marc Guehi will likely join Newcastle United soon. A fifth offer is anticipated to be accepted, as Crystal Palace initially resisted selling until the closing days of the transfer window.
Beginning the season at a slow pace and showing indifference is not uncommon, even top athletes can experience this.
In August 1996, Newcastle had a rough start to the season with a loss to Everton and a surprising defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday. They managed to secure a 2-0 win over Wimbledon, but it was not very convincing. However, they quickly turned things around and went on to win seven Premier League games in a row. They ended up finishing as runners-up in the Premier League for the second year in a row.
I can't guarantee that it will happen again this time, but Eddie Howe has led his team to many long winning streaks before.
Let's get back to the topic of tonight.
I am hopeful and confident that Newcastle United will perform strongly in tonight's game.
Nottingham Forest are a tough opponent and this game will be challenging. Even if Newcastle United perform well, it may not guarantee a win against them.
I would be really disappointed if NUFC were eliminated from a cup competition so soon BUT I wouldn't view it as a definite sign that everything is falling apart and a disaster is imminent for Newcastle United.
Anything can happen in a single match, so I won't make a decision about this Newcastle United transfer season until it's over. I will wait at least three months before assessing how the team is doing in the league. By the time they face West Ham at home on November 23, Newcastle will have played only 11 Premier League matches.
