All Newcastle United players in order of importance - I am now looking back on my list…
In the final days of May, following the conclusion of the 2023/24 Premier League season, I pondered - which players are crucial to Newcastle United's success?
When it's time to make purchases and sales this summer, who might Eddie Howe consider trading?
It is expected that a few Newcastle United players will depart, as is the case for most clubs each summer, in order to create space and support new signings, as well as to help manage finances effectively.
What choices did/do we have for exchanging Newcastle United players this summer in order to acquire the desired/necessary new signings?
I went back to my post from May 28, 2024 to check the ranking of our squad members based on their importance.
Clearly, there has been a lot of activity since my last post two months ago. Several players have already left the team this summer, and there is a lot of talk about what will happen to other Newcastle United players in the future.
Where did I place them in my rankings in May 2024 in relation to the other players on the NUFC team?
Here is a list of all the Newcastle United players ranked by their significance, as we get ready for the upcoming 2024/25 season (as of May 28, 2024):
It's always fascinating to reflect on past thoughts, words, and writings. None of the players who have departed or are rumored to be leaving were part of the top eleven that I believed should have been retained two months ago.
But Elliot Anderson ranked 12th on my list and Yankuba Minteh ranked 20th. Additionally, Matt Ritchie, who was 29th on my list, as well as Paul Dummett (30th) and Loris Karius (31st), have also departed.
I believe it's important to maintain a balanced outlook.
As we are all aware, the temporary PSR problem led to the sales of Anderson and Minteh. While not ideal, it was not a catastrophe.
In my opinion, if one of Newcastle's top players, like Bruno or Isak, had been used as a sacrifice to solve the PSR issue, it would have been a big loss for the team.
Eddie Howe has put together a top-notch starting lineup and, to some extent, a top-quality group of players.
As I consider the key players for the upcoming season who have the potential to achieve great results, the top six on my list (Isak, Bruno, Gordon, Tonali, Joelinton, and Pope) must definitely be retained. It could have been a top seven if Sven Botman was available at the start of the new season.
At times, the transfer season is just as important for retaining your top players as it is for bringing in new talent.
Newcastle United has been busy bringing in new players to strengthen their squad. They recently added Lloyd Kelly and Lewis Hall to their team, as well as signing John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos as their new goalkeepers.
