Madonna has expressed her deep sorrow in a heartfelt message after the passing of her brother and longtime collaborator, Christopher Ciccone.

Ciccone’s team announced the sad news of his passing on Sunday, October 6, revealing that he had succumbed to cancer on Friday in Michigan.

"My brother Christopher has passed away," Madonna, 66, shared in an Instagram post, accompanied by a collection of pictures featuring her and Ciccone together.

He was the person I felt closest to for many years. It’s tough to put our connection into words, but it developed from recognizing our differences and realizing that society would challenge us for not conforming to traditional norms.

We held each other's hands and twirled through the chaos of our youth. In a way, dancing served as a strong bond that kept us connected.

"Finding dance in our little Midwestern town was a turning point for me, and eventually, my brother discovered it as well, and it helped him just as much."

The "Material Girl" singer expressed her admiration for her previous ballet instructor, who shares the same name, Christopher. She highlighted how he provided a supportive environment that allowed her brother to share his identity as a gay man, saying, "It was a topic that was never discussed or even hinted at in our home."

"When I mustered the bravery to head to New York to pursue my dream of dancing, my brother joined me," she shared. "Once more, we held hands and danced our way through the chaos of New York City!"

“We consumed art, music, and film with an insatiable appetite. We found ourselves at the heart of a vibrant explosion of creativity. Amidst the chaos of the AIDS crisis, we celebrated life and danced our way through the turmoil.”

"We attended funerals and shed tears, but we also enjoyed nights out dancing. At the start of my career, we performed together on stage, and later on, he took on the role of Creative Director for several of my tours. When it came to matters of style and elegance, my brother was like a Pope; you had to seek his approval to receive his endorsement."

Ciccone was a talented artist, dancer, and designer who featured in several of Madonna’s music videos, such as “Lucky Star.” He also held the position of art director for her Blond Ambition world tour and was the tour director for her The Girlie Show tour.

Madonna described her brother as “an artist, a poet, and someone with great insight” who possesses “exceptional taste and a quick wit… which he occasionally directed at me, but I always forgave him.”

She talked about the time when she and her brother were not in contact after they had a disagreement due to the release of his popular autobiography, Life with My Sister Madonna, in 2008.

In the book, he discusses their difficult relationship, her love interests, and his memories of traveling with her on tour.

Madonna reflected on their reunion prior to his passing, sharing, “We managed to reconnect.” She added, “I did everything I could to help him hold on for as long as I could. He was suffering immensely in his final days.”

We grasped each other's hands once more, shut our eyes, and swayed together. I feel relieved that he's no longer in pain.

“No one will ever compare to him. I can feel that he’s out there dancing in some place.”

Ciccone passed away only a few weeks after the loss of Madonna’s stepmother, Joan Clare Ciccone, who also succumbed to cancer. Additionally, her elder brother, Anthony Ciccone, passed away last year.
