The rise to power of Emmanuel Macron

Emmanuel Macron, the current President of France, began his political career in 2012 as an advisor to the then President, François Hollande. However, he soon left the position to become the Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs under Prime Minister Manuel Valls in 2014. During this time, he showed a progressive and liberal stance, promoting pro-market policies and seeking to modernize the French economy.

In 2016, Macron resigned from his position in the government to start his own political movement, "En Marche!" or "On the Move!" which sought to appeal to centrist and moderate voters. He ran for President in 2017, running a campaign that focused on building a new political movement that would transcend traditional party lines. To the surprise of many, Macron won the election, defeating far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in the second round.

The presidency of Emmanuel Macron

Since taking office in May 2017, Macron has sought to make significant changes in French society. He has pushed through labor reforms and tax cuts aimed at boosting the economy and attracting foreign investment. Additionally, he has taken a strong stance on climate change, pledging to make France carbon-neutral by 2050 and increasing investment in renewable energy.

However, his presidency has not been without controversy. Macron's policies have faced opposition from unions and many on the left, who accuse him of favoring the wealthy over working-class people. Moreover, his proposed pension reforms have sparked nationwide protests and strikes that have lasted for several months. Despite this, Macron remains popular among moderate voters, and his presidency continues to shape French politics today.
