Liz Truss abruptly left the stage during a book promotion event when a group unfurled a banner with a lettuce on it as part of a stunt.

The ex-leader, who only served as prime minister for a short 49 days, was speaking to a crowd in Suffolk on Tuesday when a banner displaying a vegetable and the phrase "I caused the economic crash" was revealed.

The prank was inspired by the dare issued by the Daily Star newspaper in October 2022 to see if Ms Truss's time as prime minister could last longer than the expiration date of a head of iceberg lettuce.

The greens stayed fresh for a longer time than the Conservative Prime Minister's leadership, which crumbled due to a poorly financed budget leading to a sharp increase in mortgage rates nationwide.

A video circulating this week shows Ms Truss expressing her support for Trump and her desire for him to win. However, she goes on to mention her concerns about incumbents and how she believes the average American is struggling.

Not noticing the sign in the background, the ex-leader went on to say: "I believe it was an adviser of Bill Clinton who stated 'it's all about the economy', so I think he will likely come out on top."

Ms. Truss seemed really annoyed by the prank, saying "that's not amusing", before grabbing her things and walking off the stage.

The organization Led by Donkeys took responsibility for the prank, and shared a video on social media saying: "Liz Truss is promoting Trump, so we flew a remote-controlled lettuce banner to make a statement."

The group did a similar prank earlier this year, interrupting a talk by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage by flying a banner with a picture of the Russian president using a remote control. The banner had the words, "I love Putin" written on it.

Ms. Truss has been reached out to for a statement.
