Mainoo Wins, Danish Reds Draw

It's currently 10:57 pm on Sunday, June 16th, 2024.

For the full duration of the regular game time, which was four minutes, and also during the injury time that lasted for the same period, Kobbie Mainoo was on the field when England began their first game of Euro 2024 with a close 1-0 victory against Serbia.

After graduating from the Manchester United Academy, the player earned their first cap in a competitive match. They came in to replace Jude Bellingham, who scored the winning goal with a header in the 13th minute from a cross by Bukayo Saka. This goal was what ultimately led to the teams' victory.

During England's match, they made two substitutions with Conor Gallagher and Jarrod Bowen replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold and Saka. Bowen came close to creating a second goal when he crossed the ball deep from the right and found Harry Kane. Kane then headed the ball, but the opposing goalkeeper, Predrag Rajković, managed to push it onto the bar.

In the 86th minute, Bellingham, who had scored a goal, was substituted by Mainoo.

In the latter half of the game, Serbia posed a greater challenge and Jordan Pickford came up with a crucial save by deflecting a shot from the energetic Dusan Vlahovic.

Luke Shaw, who is also on the United team with Mainoo, was not used in the game. This is despite the left-back Kieran Trippier getting cramps towards the end of the game and needing attention.

Group C is being dominated by England, who have gained a two-point lead over their competitors. They can now anticipate the match on Thursday against Denmark, where they will once again face Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojluind. Denmark drew 1-1 with Slovenia in their previous match.

Eriksen was in control of the game while playing in Stuttgart. Then, in the 17th minute, he appeared inside the opponent's penalty box and completed a beautiful sequence to score the first goal and make it 1-0.

The tenth player in the Denmark team received a clever pass from Jonas Wind and controlled the ball with their chest. They then used their right foot to shoot the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal. This goal was Eriksen's 42nd for Denmark and is considered to be one of the best and most crucial in his impressive international career.

Christian had an impressive performance in the first half where he was almost successful in creating a second goal multiple times. He attempted a half-volleyed cross from the right side which nearly resulted in an own goal as it bounced off two Slovenia defenders. However, the ball ended up rolling safely away from the far post.

In a comparable stance, the 32-year-old nearly set up Rasmus Hojlund within the penalty area, however, Jaka Bijol's exceptional intervention foiled the assault.

In the end, Eriksen seemed surprisingly nervous when Wind attempted to repay him with a helpful pass. The midfielder from United tilted backward and sent the ball over the goal, resulting in Denmark going into halftime with a slim lead that they had earned.

During the second part of the game, Denmark suffered the consequences of not scoring more goals. Although they had taken the lead with Eriksen's goal, the opposing team managed to even the score with an amazing goal. Slovenia almost tied the game with a remarkable shot by Sesko that hit the crossbar. However, their left-back, Janza, didn't waste the opportunity and scored from outside the penalty area. Unfortunately for Denmark's defense, Hjulmand deflected the shot and Schmeichel couldn't do anything to save the goal.

During the game, Eriksen played the entire 90 minutes. On the other hand, Rasmus Hojlund, who is also part of the team, left the field with just seven minutes remaining as part of a triple substitution. At the 65th minute mark, the United striker nearly scored a goal that could have increased the Danes' lead. However, his attempt to connect with Victor Kristiansen's low cross was thwarted by the sprawling Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who blocked the ball with his midriff.

Former Manchester United forward Wout Weghorst found the back of the net in the 83rd minute, securing a victory for the Netherlands over Poland by a score of 2-1 in their Group D matchup earlier today.
