Kobbie Mainoo makes Euro debut as England get off to winning start

The English team has started their participation in the European Championship this summer by achieving a 1-0 victory against Serbia in their first group match on Sunday night.

At first, Gareth Southgate included three Manchester United players in the list of 33 potential squad members for the team. However, due to Harry Maguire's injury, which also prevented him from playing at the end of the club season, only Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were ultimately selected for the final squad of 26 players.

Both athletes were part of the team that played against Serbia, and Shaw made a comeback by sitting on the bench after being out of action for more than four months.

Mainoo came in as a replacement, but he only appeared briefly towards the end of the game. Despite this, the 19-year-old player contributed to his team's success in securing a win, which was achieved through a header by Jude Bellingham in the first half. The team, known as the Three Lions, earned three points as a result.

Mainoo is aiming to have a greater impact in England's upcoming group matches, as they have matches scheduled against Denmark and Slovenia.

It remains uncertain whether Shaw will participate in those matches, but the fact that he has been selected for the team is undoubtedly beneficial for Southgate.

Before the match, Erik ten Hag shared some information about Shaw's physical condition. He mentioned that Shaw will only be able to join the team after England advance past the group stage.

Ten Hag, who was invited to a Dutch TV program, stated that Luke Shaw will only begin playing after England has successfully completed the group stages.
