Kemi Badenoch emerged victorious in North West Essex despite the Labour party making significant gains in the area.

Badenoch, serving as the minister for women and equalities since October 2022, garnered 19,360 votes in the North West Essex constituency, winning by a margin of 2,610 votes.

Before, she served as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Saffron Walden, where she secured 39,714 votes in the 2019 election.

While serving as the equalities minister, Badenoch has stirred up controversy for her interactions with the LGBTQ+ community. She met with the LGB Alliance, referred to trans women as “men” in a leaked recording, did not implement a ban on conversion therapy, and inquired about altering the definition of 'sex' in the Equality Act.

Recently, Badenoch has been publicly feuding with David Tennant.

The actor from Doctor Who criticized Badenoch during a talk at the LGBT+ Awards, saying he hopes she stops talking. He also said he is grateful for receiving the award, as long as Badenoch is still around.

Badenoch responded by posting on social media to criticize the actor and their support for the transgender community.

"I will continue to speak out," she stated firmly.

"I refuse to be silenced by men who value praise from Stonewall more than the well-being of women and girls," she stated, before accusing Tennant of being a "wealthy, liberal, white male celebrity so consumed by his beliefs that he fails to recognize the repercussions of publicly advocating for my removal as the only black woman in government."

Yet she didn't end there, she kept going, criticizing Labour, whom Tennant backs, and stating that "this is just a taste of what things will be like if they come out on top".
