Phillips will have a medical at Portman Road on Thursday (August 15) after both teams agreed to the terms of the transfer. There will be no option for City to recall him. The 28-year-old recently came back to City after spending six months on loan at West Ham United.

The sports website The Athletic said that Everton looked into the possibility of borrowing Phillips this past summer, and Fulham also showed interest in the English player.

Phillips is set to join Ipswich as their seventh new player this summer, joining the likes of Greaves, Hutchinson, Delap, Townsend, Johnson, and Muric.

Phillips signed with West Ham in January, but his time at the east London team was not successful. He played in 10 games while on loan and received a red card for two yellow cards in a 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in February.

A few weeks after City signed Phillips, Guardiola began to suspect that he had made a error.

The English player had very few chances to play at City after joining the club from Leeds in 2022, only starting two Premier League games during his time there. These starts came after Guardiola's team had already won the league title in the 2022-23 season.

Even though Phillips was a key player for England in the last European Championship, he has been left out of the national team squad for Euro 2024.
