Ipswich Town has reached an agreement to bring in Kalvin Phillips, a midfielder from Manchester City, on loan for the entire season.

The player from England is likely to undergo a medical examination with the recently promoted team in the Premier League on Thursday.

The 28-year-old is believed to have liked the project after talking with manager Kieran McKenna and chairman Mark Ashton.

The city is said to be covering some of his salary.

The former Leeds player picked Ipswich instead of several other Premier League teams.

Ipswich is still talking about the loan deal for midfielder Jens Cajuste from Napoli.

Phillips has faced challenges during his two years with City, only starting six games across all competitions. Pep Guardiola has expressed difficulty in finding a place for the midfielder in his team.

The 28-year-old player was loaned to West Ham for the second half of the previous season, where he only started in three games. Unfortunately, he was also shown a red card during a match against Nottingham Forest.

Phillips had a tough time playing for his club, which led to him being left out of the England team for Euro 2024. His last game for his country was in November 2023.

Ipswich has been busy making moves in the transfer market since coming back to the Premier League. They have brought in players like Omari Hutchinson, Ben Johnson, Jacob Greaves, Liam Delap, Arijanet Muric, and Conor Townsend to join Kieran McKenna's team.

Their Premier League season kicks off with a home match against Liverpool, who will be managed by Arne Slot for the first time, on Saturday.
