Kalvin Phillips was seen using offensive language towards a fan of West Ham who had insulted him by calling him "useless". This occurred when he was getting on the team bus after their 4-3 loss against Newcastle United.

Phillips' performance as a substitute in the second half was utterly terrible. He caused a penalty and was easily dodged by Harvey Barnes, who then scored the winning goal for Newcastle. Later on, a video revealed that he responded with an obscene gesture to a fan who was hurling verbal abuse at him outside the stadium.

This was a disappointing moment for Phillips, whose professional journey has been on hold since he departed from his childhood team, Leeds United, to join Manchester City in 2022. Despite being 28 years old, Phillips received very little playing time under the guidance of City's coach, Pep Guardiola, which led him to seek out a loan to West Ham in hopes of getting more opportunities to compete. However, Phillips' performances have fallen far below the level that he previously demonstrated while representing England in significant competitions. As a result, it's improbable that he'll be picked for the Euro 2024 tournament.

David Moyes, the manager of West Ham, did not hold Phillips accountable for his team's failure, but acknowledged that his replacement did not bring the desired result.

Moyes mentioned that he believed adding another midfielder to the team would provide better regulation in the center of the field. However, this strategy did not yield the desired outcome.

When the match was happening, I believed that the other team had a slight advantage over us. Even though we scored two goals and then a third, we still had to focus on our defense and make it tougher for them to score. Unfortunately, they were able to score four goals in total, which meant we lost the game. However, I must say that we did well in our offensive play, as we managed to score three goals.

West Ham has chosen not to provide any statement regarding the situation.
