Jess Phillips heckled by anti-Israel activists after narrow victory and ‘worst campaign’ of her career

Jess Phillips was shouted at by supporters of Palestine after just beating a candidate from the far left who has claimed that the Labour Party supports the "genocide" of Israelis.

The incumbent Member of Parliament for Birmingham Yardley won against Workers Party candidate Jody McIntyre by a narrow margin of 700 votes in the election on Thursday.

After Phillips won, he tried to speak but people started shouting "free Palestine."

She informed the crowd during the tally: "It seems like we will be carrying on with the same lessons we had while campaigning."

The Labour Member of Parliament added, "I will keep going with my speech. I know that when a confident woman confronts you, there is often reluctance on your part."

Confronted with additional chanting, she requested that officials remove those who were disrupting her from the event.

Phillips described the campaign as the most disappointing election he has ever participated in.

"I really like that my seat was a closely contested seat, I believe closely contested seats produce more effective members of Parliament," she expressed.

An outstanding community organizer who had partnered with her for advocacy purposes was caught on camera while in the streets and had her tires punctured, according to Phillips. Additionally, a female volunteer canvassing alone was verbally attacked by an elderly man.

She refused to let Jo Cox MP's family, who was murdered by a far-right extremist during the Brexit campaign, campaign with her due to the hostile atmosphere.

Phillips ended by saying: "I didn't bring my kids with me tonight because I already anticipated this outcome, and they deserve more than that."

Phillips earned 11,275 votes, compared to McIntyre's 10,582 votes.

In an interview with Muslim news website 5Pillars, McIntyre expressed his belief that Labour would lose seats in Birmingham, if it is meant to happen.

Indeed, the situation in Palestine is a significant concern for us. However, it is not the sole focus of our campaigns, nor is it the only reason for the immense support we have garnered.

He said that Labour's stance on Gaza is "completely reprehensible, vile, and possibly even illegal."

According to McIntyre, a lot of Muslim voters who are backing his campaign will not go back to supporting the party.

"They are known as the party responsible for genocide, injustice, and corruption," he continued.

In a recent WhatsApp message shared by LBC, it was disclosed that he expressed: "I truly believe that the trans community poses a threat to society... but we can have varying opinions."
