James Morrison's ex-partner left warning note on door before suicide

During an investigation, it was revealed that the ex-partner of singer-songwriter James Morrison left a message on her door instructing not to enter and instead contact the police before committing suicide.

Gill Catchpole, who was 45 years old, was discovered deceased by Morrison in her residence in Whitminster, Gloucestershire on January 5th of the current year.

The Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court was told that a friend had visited Catchpole’s house and discovered a handwritten message on a piece of paper fixed to the front door.

Afterwards, the friend went to the nearby house where Morrison resided and informed him. The musician then used his keys to unlock Catchpole's residence and discovered her deceased body.

The police and medical professionals were contacted, and Catchpole, who had a background of mental health issues, was declared deceased at 9.37am.

Detective Sergeant David Kania, who looked into the unexpected death, determined that there was no involvement from any other individuals.

He mentioned in a written statement: "A friend of the person who died went to the location and saw a piece of paper with the message 'Stay out, contact the authorities.'

"The friend visited the ex-partner at their home, and together they found a set of keys to the attached house. They used the keys to enter and discovered the body of the deceased inside."

When I walked into the living room, I noticed a collection of handwritten letters on the coffee table. The letters were meant for the deceased's former partner, relatives, and friends.

There were no indications of any problems or outside interference. I was told by people close to Gill that she had been struggling with her mental well-being for about a year, especially after her breakup with her ex-partner.

It's possible that this worsened her mental health even more, ultimately leading her to take actions that resulted in her premature passing.

An examination after death revealed that the cause of death was "ligature suspension".

The toxicology tests revealed that Catchpole had a blood alcohol level of 190mg per 100ml of blood, which is well above the legal limit of 80mg per 100ml for drink driving.

During the investigation, the toxicologist could not confirm if Catchpole's alcohol consumption had influenced her mental state, or to what extent it may have done so.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Catchpole had been dealing with kidney problems since 2008 and had undergone a kidney transplant.

According to a statement from Dr. Emma Basker's general practitioner, she has experienced ongoing struggles with her mental well-being, such as anxiety and PTSD. Dr. Basker has been prescribed medication, attended counselling sessions, and received psychological therapy to help manage these issues.

Roland Wooderson, the coroner from Gloucestershire, determined that the cause of death was suicide.

"I can clearly see from the notes that Gill was going through a tough time before her death," he stated.

Catchpole's loved ones, such as her mom, dad, and stepdad, who were present at the hearing, chose not to make any statements as they exited.
