Play-Off Date Switch - Ipswich Town News

Ipswich Town

Change of Date for Play-Off On Tuesday the 23rd of April 2024 at 1:01 pm, there was a shift in the scheduled date for the Play-Off event.

The EFL organization has declared that a modification in date will occur for a Championship play-off semi-final.

The match between the teams in fifth and fourth place, originally scheduled for Monday 13th May at 8pm, has been rescheduled to take place on Sunday 12th May at 2.15pm. This change is due to the match between the teams in sixth and third place, which will be played at 12.30pm on the same day.

The relocation seems to be caused by a scheduling conflict with the Aston Villa-Liverpool Premier League match taking place at Villa Park, as West Brom - who are currently ranked fifth - are located nearby. The rest of the games will proceed as planned.

The team from the town is presently holding the third position in the standings, but there is still a possibility that they may end up securing the fourth spot.

Just hold on until Sky acquires it. The time of midnight on the 12th will arrive.

We won't be bothered by the playoffs.

Wow, it seems like Lifes A Pitch TV has some serious influence. Phil was able to set up the end of season dinner for Monday the 13th, but the EFL didn't want to have an event at the same time and risk losing attendees. So, they went and changed their plans! Impressive.

Thank you Phil. However, it will not be significant.

Naturally, this is the case as the Premier League holds greater significance. It's to be expected.

This situation brings to mind a similar one when our large cup semifinal match against Birmingham had to be rescheduled due to a Premier League game between Villa. Consequently, this caused the match to be one of the very few semifinals in the last 40-50 years not to be broadcasted on television. This was mainly because the Man U versus Sunderland league match on Sky couldn't be displaced for it.

I am also curious if there is a bit of apprehension towards the potential of having an East Anglian derby as the 4th versus 5th game. In fact, the league even implemented a special rule before the end of the 2015 season to make sure that the Ipswich versus Norwich match had to be played on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. regardless of their standings. It was not the thrilling evening match under the lights that fans were hoping for.

The Van Dusen event is not related to the chance of us playing against Norwich, since the second leg will take place in the evening regardless.

I was pondering about the time 2:45 in the morning.

It is possible that the Norwich police deliberately scheduled all matches at 12:30 because they believe we are more vulnerable at that time for some reason. Even if this game is not particularly risky, it could still be played on a weekday instead.

Blues1 - I concur, you are likely correct and I might be overly cautious. Nonetheless, I wouldn't be caught off guard if the second half of the competition is shifted to Saturday, the 18th of the month, starting at 12:30 pm if things take a turn for the worse.

I believed that we were taking a risk by booking it for that specific evening!
