Ian Hislop: No evidence London black cab was shot at
Authorities looking into claims that a gunshot was fired at a taxi transporting Ian Hislop have discovered no proof to support the allegation.
"Immediate reviews of CCTV footage and forensic analysis" instead indicated a mechanical issue with the car that led to the back window breaking, according to a representative from the Metropolitan Police.
The police stated that their officers are still looking into what happened during the incident that occurred in Soho, central London, on Tuesday morning. Both Mr. Hislop and the driver, who notified the Metropolitan Police about the situation, were unharmed.
Mr. Hislop, the editor of Private Eye, has conveyed his gratitude to all those who have reached out with their support, saying it means a lot to him.
Mr. Hislop went on to say, "He can verify that there was an event in a taxi yesterday where a back window broke, and the authorities are looking into it."
At first, they considered the idea that a gun may have been fired, but they have since suggested that there could be a more innocent reason for the incident.
The star of "Have I Got News For You," who has been at the helm of the satirical magazine Private Eye since 1986, expressed his gratitude to the police and everyone who reached out to him.
The Guardian was the first to report that the taxi driver thought someone had shot at his car.
The authorities have reported that the taxi is being inspected more closely.
