Ian Hislop jokes about 'high point' of taxi incident mistaken for shooting
Ian Hislop humorously mentioned that there was one "silver lining" to being part of an event that was first believed to be a shooting earlier this week.
On Tuesday, while the editor of Private Eye was riding in a black taxi close to the magazine's office in Soho, central London, the back window of the cab shattered.
At first, it was thought that the taxi had been struck by a bullet. However, the Metropolitan Police later stated that there was "no evidence of any gunfire at this moment."
Hislop talked about the event during the pre-taped edition of Have I Got News For You that aired on Friday night.
Before the opening credits of the episode, Hislop was shown speaking to the host, the panelists, and the audience. He expressed, “I usually say I'm happy to be here at this moment, but this time, I genuinely mean it.”
There was a memorable moment when a police officer looking into my case asked, "This might sound a bit odd, but is there anyone who could hold a grudge against you?"
While the audience erupted in laughter, Paul Merton, the captain of Hislop's opposing team, jokingly remarked, "I've got an excuse."
The episode was recorded on Thursday night.

Hislop expressed gratitude to "everyone for their support" after the event that took place on Tuesday.
A post shared by Private Eye on social media said: "[Police] first considered the chance that a gun had been fired, but they've since suggested that there could be a simpler, more innocent reason for the incident."

The inquiry was triggered by a report from a taxi driver, who claimed that he was stopped in traffic on Dean Street when someone fired a shot at his car, hitting the window and causing damage.
There were no reported injuries.
Hislop has been the editor of the satirical magazine since 1986 and has also been a team captain on the show Have I Got News For You since it first aired in 1990.
