Previous Conservative leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith managed to come out on top despite many Conservative seats being lost. This was partly due to a disagreement within the Labour party causing a split in the votes against him.

The Member of Parliament representing Chingford & Woodford Green managed to keep his seat with a lead of 4,757 votes against his Labour opponent Shama Tatler. Tatler narrowly defeated the previous party candidate, Faiza Shaheen.

The competition in east London made the news when the Labour party removed Ms. Shaheen as their candidate before the election. This happened after she was accused of approving a series of posts that apparently minimized claims of antisemitism.

This inspired her to start her own campaign, with the support of snooker star Ronnie O'Sullivan. She strongly criticized Labour's choice to deselect her, claiming that it helped Sir Iain win the election.

Critiquing the Labour party once the outcome was revealed, she expressed her disappointment, saying: "They have disappointed my community. I am feeling very irritated with them at the moment. That outcome was not acceptable."

She informed the journalists that the Labour party had deceived the voters, stating, "They misled the public by saying there was no possibility of me winning."

Ms Shaheen, who was raised in the area, expressed her belief that residents would be let down if Iain Duncan Smith won again. She commended the grassroots movement that supported her and criticized Labour for neglecting the desires of the constituency. She claimed that they had chosen a candidate that was unfamiliar to the community.

You believed it was insignificant, you believed you could mistreat me and mistreat our group in any manner you pleased but we have come together and firmly refused.

Ms Shaheen ran as the party's candidate in 2019 and came very close to defeating Mr Duncan-Smith, falling short by only 1,262 votes.
