The Cricket World Cup caused England to lose their chance to continue, when they suffered a 33-run loss to Australia. However, they are now eager to regain some honor by playing against the Netherlands.

England's attempt to defend their championship title was a complete disaster. However, there is still a glimmer of hope as only the leading eight teams in the rankings will make it into the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.

It won't be easy because England has been performing poorly, which is why they're currently at the bottom of the rankings with the least amount of points and a lower net-run rate than any other team.

After the tournament is over, we can take a closer look at how England's performance went so terribly wrong. It's puzzling because there were hardly any clues that indicated they would struggle when the team went to India. However, at the moment there is an opportunity to climb out of the last place position in the standings by winning two upcoming matches against the Netherlands and Pakistan.

Root Dismissed For 28 - England 133-2

He attempted a trademark scoop, but it was too planned out. He hesitated while attempting to execute the shot, resulting in him being dismissed after scoring only 28 runs.

The ball passed between the legs of Root as he attempted to avoid hitting it, but he had limited choices from that point.

Malan Shines As England Scores 131-1 With Root's Support

Dutt's latest over was less eventful, but the Netherlands team is in a position where they desperately require a wicket. In particular, they are hoping to take out Malan.

However, England has established a solid foundation, which they have frequently failed to accomplish in the past, and they seem at ease.

Malan Dominates As England Cruise To Score Of 124-1

Malan has just scored another six and has now reached the 80s. His performance as an opening batsman for the England team has been impressive. He rushed towards his half-century but then slowed down a bit. He has now hit the 500th six in the history of the World Cup.

England are doing really well at the moment. It's hard to understand why they weren't performing like this earlier in the competition.

Malan Dominates With 72 As England Scores 111-1 In 17 Overs

Malan has hit the ball really hard and it went all the way over the short boundary for a six that travelled about 65 metres! He looks very sure of himself and calm.

As the innings' pace increases, Root is effectively playing a supportive role to Malan's scoring abilities.

He's doing a good job of keeping the scoreboard ticking and giving Malan the chance to hit big shots.

Malan Leads With 58 As England Scores 82-1 In 13 Overs

When Malan attempted a leg-side flick, he had a brief moment of nervousness as he failed to make firm contact with the ball. Fortunately, the ball fell short of the fielder positioned far from the pitch.

Root is currently adjusting to his surroundings at the moment. According to Nasser Hussain's commentary, although Root has not been performing poorly during this tournament, he has not been able to obtain high scores to support his good form.

Malan's Half-Century Propels England To 70-1 With Root On The Crease

This is the most impressive beginning to a game that we have seen in the World Cup thus far. However, their struggle during the tournament and before it was the unfortunate occurrence of losing wickets.

In the first couple of games, Joe Root achieved some points against New Zealand and Bangladesh and he's looking forward to increasing his total score in this game of the World Cup.

As the powerplay comes to a close, England has managed to score 70 runs and the pitch in Pune seems to be favorable.

Malan's 45 Leads England To 63-1, Root Struggles At 0

Malan seems to be in good shape at the moment. He is the only member of the England team who has hit a hundred in the competition up until now, although it feels like a while back since the match against Bangladesh.

England's batting has yet to demonstrate their skills in this tournament, but this upcoming opportunity gives them a chance to show that they still have the ability to bat.

Bairstow Dismissed For 15 - England 48/1

After talking extensively about a fitting platform, it's now apparent that Jonny Bairstow has been eliminated!

He attempted to hit the ball towards the leg side with a strong force but accidentally hit the top of the ball causing it to be caught by the opponent. He hasn't performed as well as he did in 2019 when he was in top shape at the beginning of the innings.

The Yorkshire cricket player might feel let down about missing the chance to rack up points during this match.

Bairstow And Malan Lead England To Dominant 47-0 Victory In 6 Overs

England has exhibited excellent performance during the powerplay. Malan, in particular, has been successful in scoring from deliveries that were low or wide, and he seems confident in his performance.

If they can do a good job, some people might question why they couldn't do it earlier. However, it's important to remember that there's still a chance for the team to secure a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Failing to do so would be quite embarrassing for the team, especially considering they are currently the defending champions.

Bairstow And Malan Lead England To 29-0

England would be thrilled with the beginning they have had, which they have been missing throughout the entire tournament.

Possibly, the realization of being publicly out and experiencing a low point has triggered a change. Although it's still the beginning, the starting players are making their presence known against the Netherlands and even holding their ground defensively.
