England Cricket

Australia emerged victorious by 33 runs against England in a match held at Ahmedabad for the ICC Men's World Cup. The Aussies managed to score 286 in 49.3 overs, with Labuschagne contributing a substantial 71 runs from 83 balls. Woakes proved to be a formidable opponent with 4-54, while Rashid secured 2-38. England, on the other hand, fell short of the target with 253 in 48.1 overs. Stokes put up a good fight, scoring 64 runs from 90 balls, but it wasn't enough. Zampa proved to be a key factor in securing Australia's win with 3-21. Check out the scorecard and group table for more details.

Australia has terminated England's World Cup defence following a 33-run triumph in Ahmedabad against their long-established adversaries.

Although there was already very little chance for England to progress, their hopes for a miraculous turnaround were completely dashed after suffering their fifth consecutive loss and sixth overall.

Australia was bowled out for 286 and the team showed effort with their own batting, but they were eventually dismissed for 253.

At the beginning of the chase, Jonny Bairstow was caught on the leg side after facing just one ball. Joe Root also fell soon after scoring 13 runs, which left Ben Stokes to lead the rest of the chase. Despite playing alone, Stokes showed signs of delivering an exceptional performance similar to his past ones.

As soon as he started to pick up speed, the player who has caused Australia the most trouble lately was easily caught out by leg-spinner Adam Zampa. He had scored 64 runs from 90 balls.

Towards the end, Chris Woakes attempted to make a comeback, but his score of 32 was not sufficient to prevent England from getting knocked out in the second-last over.

England's loss has placed them at the bottom of the leaderboard with two matches remaining in the tournament. They will play against the Netherlands on Wednesday and conclude the tournament with a match against Pakistan on Saturday.

They're now focused on preventing the humiliation of not being able to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy due to their position outside the top eight in India.

At this moment, the Australian team is close to securing their spot in the semi-finals. They feel encouraged after defeating their rivals from the Ashes.

Australia Deals Final Blow

The misery of a troublesome four weeks has been compounded by England's defence coming to an official end following their defeat by Australia.

The tournament concluded at the biggest cricket stadium in the world, which is also where England's hopeful outlook was completely destroyed by a dominant performance from New Zealand in the very first match.

The successful performance in bowling uplifted their spirits - Woakes showcased his skills with 4-54 - but as soon as Bairstow was easily dismissed, Australia became the anticipated winners.

The batsman named Root hit the ball to the area marked as seven, but it missed the fielder positioned at slip. However, on the next ball, he hit it with the bat and it grazed the side before being caught by the wicketkeeper after reviewing the replay. This left Stokes and Dawid Malan to work on building up the team's score again.

During the 19th over until the second ball of the 2nd over, they played cautiously and scored 84 runs out of 108 balls. Unfortunately, Malan was caught out on 50 after hitting a high shot to the deep square leg. The captain, Jos Buttler, had a terrible performance as he was only able to score one run in seven balls before getting caught out by Zampa.

During Stokes' presence, he couldn't help but think back to his incredible performance during the Ashes at Headingley. The target was not too difficult to achieve, and it sparked memories of his previous triumph.

He hit two sixes while reaching his fifty, but then he flicked a Zampa long-hop and it went directly to the short fine leg fielder.

Zampa's performance was excellent, managing to take 3 wickets for just 21 runs. He also made a fantastic catch while diving in the outfield, which led to the dismissal of David Willey. Additionally, Zampa contributed a crucial 29 runs while batting in the number 10 position.

Although England managed to make a comeback and secure a draw in the Ashes this summer, it is Australia that ultimately emerges victorious in 2023.

Zampa Lifts Australia's Score

The loss against India last week couldn't be attributed to England's bowlers who had put in a good performance to limit and eventually get rid of the Australian team.

Zampa had not made any mistakes until he became disheartened by his efforts to contribute 38 runs alongside Mitchell Starc, during their partnership for the ninth wicket.

Woakes got left out of the team after a really bad start to the tournament. But he showed how much better England has become by delivering two great performances.

The bowler made an impact early on in the match by taking a wicket in the second over. He managed to get Travis Head caught at slip, which ended the partnership that Head had with David Warner. In their previous game, the two had put on 175 runs together. The bowler then went on to take another wicket by getting Warner out with a slower ball, which he hit as a top edge.

Later on, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, who caused trouble for England in previous Ashes series, tried to recover by scoring 75 runs from 96 balls. However, England managed to limit the number of boundaries to only six during this time to prevent the score from increasing too much.

Adil Rashid showed excellent bowling performance during the middle phase of the game, which led to his success when Smith hit a wide ball to the short third. Later, Josh Inglis tried a reverse sweep but ended up hitting the ball to the same fielder.

Mark Wood's performance was a bit costly as he gave away 70 runs in his 10 overs, but he managed to take two wickets. One of his wickets was that of Labuschagne, who was trapped in front by a ball that would have hit the top of leg stump perfectly.

Despite their challenges, England have not been successful in scraping away victories in this tournament, unlike Australia who did just that to secure their fifth consecutive triumph.

To Pain

Jos Buttler, the leader of the England cricket team, expressed his frustration about the lack of progress. He noted that they have been having the same conversation after every match. While there were some positive improvements in the game, it was not enough as they lost by a margin of around 30 points. Nonetheless, they are committed to striving for excellence and improving their performance in the future.

This situation definitely feels like a down moment to me. I've faced a few tough times before, but this one hits differently as I am in the position of captain. Coming to India with a lot of positive expectations and now standing here feels immensely distressing.

"It causes tremendous pain."

The leader of the Australian team, Pat Cummins, expressed his delight regarding their recent success. He credits the exceptional performance of his teammates for their winning streak, stating that they have managed to emerge victorious in every game they played by utilizing their abilities to the fullest.

In my opinion, we have made progress in every game we played. However, I do not believe that we have given our best performance yet. Nevertheless, we have had various players who have secured the victory for us in different matches.
