Dubai airport diverts arrival flights after city-state struck by year's rainfall in a day

This evening, due to heavy rainfall, there is severe flooding happening in Dubai - which is home to the world's busiest international airport. Because of this, flights arriving at the airport are presently being sent to alternate locations temporarily.

On Tuesday, a downpour of over 120mm (4.7 inches) of rain occurred in the desert nation, which is customary annual rainfall - and there's a forecast for more rainfall in the forthcoming hours.

Houses and streets were inundated with water and some vehicles were abandoned and partly underwater.

The runway at Dubai International Airport was inundated and resembled a body of water as airplanes navigated through it.

Before, it was reported that airport activities were put on hold for 25 minutes because of the unfavorable weather conditions. As a result, around 21 departing and 24 arriving flights were cancelled throughout the day, while three flights were redirected to alternate airports.

Even though there was disturbance, the airport announced in their most recent update that planes taking off were still functioning.

According to the airport, incoming flights will be redirected elsewhere until the weather improves.

According to Gulf News, a representative from the airport stated that the flights will be redirected to the closest "accessible airports" that are available.

According to the spokesperson, the airport is putting in a lot of effort into cooperating with their response teams and service partners. Their main goal is to quickly get things back to normal and make things easier for their customers.

A recommendation is being given to travelers to confirm with their airline regarding the most recent updates about the condition and schedule of their flight.
