David Copperfield: Magician accused of sexual misconduct

David Copperfield

The well-known illusionist, David Copperfield, has had allegations of sexual impropriety and unacceptable conduct made against him by a total of 16 women.

According to the Guardian newspaper, some of the claimed offenses were committed while the females were minors.

The accusations stretch from the end of the 80s to 2014.

A spokesperson for Copperfield informed BBC News that the accusations made against him were "untrue and defamatory" and "completely contradictory to David’s character."

The Guardian reported that three women are alleging that the magician gave them drugs without their knowledge before engaging in sexual activities with them. The women stated that they were not in a state to give consent.

There were four reported incidents where females accused the illusionist of inappropriately touching or requesting them to touch him in a sexual way while performing live on stage.

A lady revealed that she encountered Copperfield back in 1991 when she was 15 years old and he continued to maintain communication with her via phone conversations.

At the age of 18, she claims that they engaged in sexual activity with both parties consenting to it. However, the woman conveyed to the Guardian that she has a suspicion of being groomed.

Copperfield's legal representatives admitted to the newspaper that there was a connection, but they firmly rejected any allegations of grooming.

David Copperfield's legal team released a statement to the BBC stating that individuals who are acquainted with him are aware that the recent accusations made by a single newspaper are contradictory to his character.

Actually, David has a history of putting his career on the line to safeguard women from influential assailants.

Many of these accusations from the past are being repeated, and they are still untrue. David has asked for proof to support these allegations, but none has been given.

On the other hand, when American police have examined similar issues, they have conducted a comprehensive investigation and determined that there is no valid argument.

David is not what The Guardian claims he is, and he still backs those who have encountered any mistreatment or inequity. The cause must thrive, but deceitful claims need to halt for it to prosper. David will contemplate his options with his legal advisors and will take necessary measures regarding these defamatory and dishonest allegations.

Copperfield has been previously charged with inappropriate conduct before, and back in 2018, he refuted claims of sexual misconduct in the past.

On X/Twitter, he expressed that he has been subjected to numerous news reports over the years, accusing him of horrible deeds that were untrue. He lamented that little attention was paid to the fact that the accusers were arrested and that he is completely innocent.

Copperfield, a famous magician from the United States, has achieved great success. He has received 21 Emmy Awards and has set 11 Guinness World Records.
