Powys has announced that Craig Williams will continue his candidacy for MP in the Montgomeryshire and Glyndŵr constituency.

Earlier today, the Conservative party formally removed their backing for MP hopefuls Craig Williams and Laura Saunders in Bristol North West. The candidates are currently under investigation for suspected involvement in election gambling.

Nevertheless, Powys County Council has verified today that Williams will continue to run for MP because his name cannot be taken off the ballot.

The council said there is no way they can legally take off his name, political party description, or emblem from the document.

This happened as Mr. Williams personally released a statement today. He stated, "I will still be a candidate on the ballot for July 4th and I am asking for your support based on my track record of delivering results."

I made a mistake in my thinking, which was not a crime, and I want to apologize to you again personally.

Emma Palmer, the person temporarily in charge of overseeing the election for Powys County Council, stated that she does not have the authority to make changes to a ballot paper or halt an election in these situations.

"We need to stick to the original plan as dictated by the laws governing elections."

This means that if a candidate who has had backing from their party taken away wins the election, their victory is still valid.

They begin their term in the customary manner and have the option to either act as a solo Member of Parliament, affiliate with a political party, or step down from their position.

If a Member of Parliament decides to join a different political party, it does not always result in a by-election being called.

If they decided to step down, a special election would be conducted.

If the Member of Parliament desired, they could choose to run in the by-election as an independent candidate or join a different political party.
