Bet row candidate Craig Williams receives support of Tory as party abandon campaign

Craig Williams

Earlier today, news broke that the national Conservative Party has decided to no longer back Craig Williams, their candidate for Montgomeryshire & Glyndwr. Williams, who also served as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's Parliamentary private secretary (PPS), is now without the party's support.

This post follows days of guessing after Williams publicly admitted that he had placed a bet on the general election date, and then later acknowledged that it was a big mistake.

The Gambling Commission is currently looking into him, along with three other members of the Conservative party, to determine if they had access to privileged information and if they violated any regulations.

Even though his party has decided to not support his campaign anymore, Mr Williams will still be listed as a Conservative candidate on the ballot papers for the upcoming election.

Russell George, the Conservative Member of the Welsh Assembly for Montgomeryshire, has officially announced his complete support for Mr. Williams. He also stated that he will be actively promoting and encouraging people to vote for him on July 4.

He mentioned that Craig Williams will be listed as the Welsh Conservative candidate for Montgomeryshire & Glyndwr on the ballot. He urged everyone to support Craig and vote for him.

Although the national party has decided to no longer support him, he has admitted to making a mistake and has apologized for it. However, his actions were not considered a criminal offense.

Craig has shown up, unlike other politicians.

"We need to let the proper independent procedure happen. It might sound outdated, but I support the idea of being presumed innocent until proven guilty."

Craig has done an amazing job as our MP for the past five years, bringing in significant amounts of funding from the UK government to support our community.

I fully back him, which is why I urge everyone to vote for Craig Williams on July 4th.
