Paddy McGuinness Finishes Kids' Bike Challenge
McGuinness wrapped up his journey at the BBC studios located in Glasgow.
BBC Radio 2 host Paddy McGuinness has successfully finished his remarkable cycling challenge for Children In Need. He rode an impressive 300 miles from Wales to Scotland on a Raleigh Chopper bike.
The ex-host of Top Gear and Question of Sport, who is 51 years old, has gathered over £7.5 million during his five-day trip on a specially designed children's bicycle from the 1970s, named Patch.
"What an incredible view, what an amazing experience!" he remarked upon reaching BBC Scotland's headquarters in Glasgow at around 10:30 AM GMT on Friday.
This year's Children in Need telethon will kick off at 7:00 PM on BBC One. Joining in the event will be Girls Aloud, Ella Henderson, and Ncuti Gatwa from Doctor Who.
McGuinness encountered Pudsey Bear, the mascot for Children in Need, during his journey from Wrexham to Glasgow.
McGuinness began his journey from Wrexham on Monday and was greeted by large groups of people when he completed his ride on Friday.
"I truly can't wrap my head around it. I was leaving East Kilbride and noticed Glasgow bathed in sunlight," he remarked.
As I entered, I noticed the streets were filled with people. Sir Tom Hunter was right by my side, and as I turned the corner, I felt overwhelmed. Thank you all so much!
McGuinness's fundraising amount is set to increase substantially now that Scottish entrepreneur and charity supporter Sir Tom has announced he will match any contributions made beginning Wednesday, up to a maximum of £3 million.
McGuinness made the journey on a customized Raleigh Chopper bicycle.
The star from Bolton mentioned that his inspiration to take on this challenge came from individuals he encountered who had gained advantages from initiatives supported by BBC Children in Need.
"When you encounter these individuals, it really motivates you. Observing the efforts being made in the community, and then having people approach me when I’m out and about, it all contributes to that feeling," he shared.
On Thursday, Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy came to support him, while astronaut Tim Peake and his Phoenix Nights co-star Peter Kay sent him encouraging messages. Additionally, he received well-wishes from hundreds of listeners.
Last year, Vernon Kay, a host on Radio 2, helped raise over £6 million for Children in Need by finishing his ultra-marathon.
The DJ covered a distance of 116 miles from Leicester to Bolton in just four days.
Children in Need is the BBC's organization dedicated to supporting underprivileged children and young individuals throughout the UK.
Since its initial major fundraising campaign in 1980, it has generated over £1 billion for charities and various initiatives.
This Friday, BBC One will host an exciting three-hour event filled with comedy, music, and unexpected appearances.
The show will be hosted by Ade Adepitan, Chris Ramsey, and Rochelle Humes, along with Kay, Mel Giedroyc, and Lenny Rush.
A new single is paying tribute to Sarah Harding, who passed away in 2021.
One of the most eagerly awaited features of this year’s release is a fresh rendition of Girls Aloud's song "I'll Stand By You," showcasing the lead vocals solely by their late member, Sarah Harding.
The song was first launched as a charity track for Children In Need in 2004 and reached the number one spot on the UK charts for two weeks. Now, for its 20th anniversary, it will be re-released to continue supporting the charity.
An updated version of the music video, including previously unseen archival footage, will be shown during the appeal show on Friday.
Another exciting moment of the evening will feature Ncuti Gatwa, known for his role in Doctor Who, sharing a sneak peek of the upcoming Christmas Special.
Fans of Doctor Who will get the opportunity to acquire some collectible items from the iconic science fiction series when two pieces are put up for auction.
The evening will feature a performance by singer Ella Henderson, and pop sensation Kylie Minogue has prepared a special message that will be shared during the event.
Fans can look forward to an appearance by the stars of Gladiators, along with a special act from Strictly Come Dancing, featuring the professional dancers alongside the beloved TV character Bluey.
Actor Gary Oldman will narrate a bedtime story for CBeebies, which will be featured in the program.
BBC Children in Need is set to broadcast at 7:00 PM on Friday, November 15, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
