Birmingham girl, nine, swims mile a day for Children in Need
A nine-year-old girl has managed to collect over £600 by swimming a total of four miles, completing one mile each day, to support BBC's Children in Need.
Hannah, a resident of Kings Heath in Birmingham, expressed that the challenge was "a positive initiative to support other kids."
This week, she completed a mile by swimming 64 laps of 25 meters each. She mentioned that swimming feels like her primary hobby at the moment.
When asked about the feedback from her friends and family, Hannah responded, "I believe they've expressed that it's quite incredible and impressive that I'm taking this on."
She mentioned, "I'm just trying to keep my composure about it, and now that I've experienced it, I can honestly say I agree with them—it's truly incredible."
The fundraiser mentioned that she really enjoyed swimming, but she also confessed that her legs were hurting "the whole time" during her laps for Children in Need.
When asked about the inspiration behind her idea, Hannah explained: "I was trying to figure out what to do because I wanted to take action, and then it just popped into my mind."
She later expressed, "I want to do it because I believe it's the right thing to do. It keeps me active, and it's also a way to support other kids."
Hannah's family expressed that they were "incredibly proud" of her and noted how "grown-up" she had been throughout the experience. They mentioned, "She hasn't complained at all. Sure, she's mentioned that her legs are sore now, but during the process, she just kept pushing forward."
Employees from BBC Radio WM and various other BBC local radio stations throughout the UK have collectively gathered over £100,000 for Children in Need by participating in a swimming challenge.
Last week, the five members of the WM team covered a total of 24 miles by swimming over a period of 24 hours.
