80 pros and 1,600+ age groupers at Challenge Family’s The Championship - endurance.biz
The main middle distance event of Challenge Family, The Championship, will occur on May 19, 2024. It will be hosted at the x-bionic sphere sports resort in Šamorín, Slovakia. More than 80 proficient athletes will participate alongside over 1,600 individuals from 57 different countries.
In the men's race, there are many strong competitors. Thirteen athletes who rank in the top 50 in the world will be participating. Pieter Heemeryck from Belgium is returning to The Championship for the sixth time, after coming in third place in the Singapore T100. He will be competing against other top contenders such as Daniel Bækkegård from Denmark, Frederic Funk from Germany, and Rico Bogen from Germany, who is the current IM 70.3 world champion.
Joe Skipper from Great Britain will also compete in the event alongside other participants who rank among the top 50, such as Kacper Stępniak from Poland, Antonio Benito from Spain, Jan Stratmann from Germany, James Teagle from Great Britain, Mark Dubrick from the United States, and Bart Aernouts from Belgium. Additionally, Kyle Smith from New Zealand, Tom Bishop from Great Britain, and the hometown favorite Richard Varga from Slovenia are also included in the lineup.
India Lee (GBR), who won the 2023 women's championship, is back with the aim of defending her title and maintaining her impressive run in the season following her Miami T100 victory. She will be joined by Lucy Buckingham and Fenella Langridge, completing a formidable British trio that will be difficult to defeat.
Competing for the win are German contenders Caroline Pohle and Anne Reischmann. Also in the running are athletes Laura Madsen from Denmark, and Marta Sanchez from Spain.
Aside from the primary event, which is The Championship race slated on Sunday, May 19th, there are other activities that will feature triathlon for individuals at various age levels and skillsets. Some of these events are the Special Olympics, sprint and standard races, and a try-athlon designed for beginners. All these gatherings will be held at the Olympic training site called x-bionic sphere, which is situated adjacent to Bratislava in Slovakia.
