Carlos Alcaraz

Current Wimbledon title holder Carlos Alcaraz had a difficult beginning in his match against unseeded Australian player Aleksandar Vukic, but he was able to improve his performance and secure a victory with a score of 7-6, 6-2, 6-2 on Wednesday.

Vukic, who is 28 years old, has a history of causing trouble for the Spaniard. He defeated the then 17-year-old in French Open qualifying four years ago.

The player from Spain, who won last year, lost twice to world ranked 69 Vukic after trying to win the first set.

However, the outcome changed as Alcaraz successfully broke back to create a tie-breaker. He took control of the tie-breaker and never lost momentum.

"I am extremely pleased with how I played today," he stated. "The initial set was crucial for my success. He had the opportunity to win the set with his serve, but I managed to secure it by winning a strong tie-break."

"In the second and third games, I performed at a very skilled level which makes me very pleased."

Alcaraz took the lead with a 4-2 advantage after Vukic made a mistake with an overhead smash at the net. However, Alcaraz then lost his advantage as his opponent broke him again in the first set.

He made a strong comeback to reach a tie-break, where he quickly gained a 5-1 advantage. However, he then allowed Vukic to win three consecutive points before stepping up his game again and ultimately winning the set. Spanish supporters on Court One breathed a sigh of relief.

The winner of the French Open, who is looking to win their fourth Grand Slam title, didn't give Vukic any chances and finished the second set fast before breezing through the third.

Next on the agenda for the 21-year-old tennis player, who has won three Grand Slam titles, is a match against American player Frances Tiafoe.

"I'm going after him," he said. "We had a great game at the US Open. I know he's a skilled player, a challenging opponent, especially on grass with his playing style."

I know this upcoming match is going to be tough for me, but I am prepared to face the challenge and give it my all. I am determined to perform well and come out victorious.

Alcaraz is on track to potentially face off against world No 1 Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals, after Sinner won a competitive four-set match against Italian player Matteo Berrettini.
