Tributes to woman thought to be first to die from ‘Brazilian butt lift’ in UK

People have been honoring a woman who is believed to be the first individual in the UK to pass away after having a suspected Brazilian butt lift procedure.

Alice Webb, 33, was admitted to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester on Monday after feeling unwell and sadly passed away early Tuesday morning.

The police in Gloucestershire reported that Webb had likely experienced a cosmetic procedure before he became unwell. They have arrested two individuals on suspected charges of manslaughter, according to the authorities.

Webb's friends, who have five kids, organized a fundraising campaign to support her family, but it has now been closed. The fundraiser mentioned that she had received a Brazilian butt lift, a procedure where fat or dermal fillers are injected into the buttocks to enhance volume and shape.

Ashton Collins, the head of Save Face, a UK organization that lists certified cosmetic professionals, expressed that Webb's death was avoidable and referred to liquid Brazilian butt lift treatments as a "disaster waiting to unfold."

She mentioned that the organization was supporting over 500 women who experienced health issues following these treatments. Save Face stated that this was the "first recorded death" linked to the procedure in the UK.

In the UK, the substances used for Brazilian butt lifts usually have a natural ingredient known as hyaluronic acid. The cost for this procedure at clinics is roughly £1,600.

Webb's partner, Dane Knight, chose not to speak at home but expressed his gratitude on social media, stating, “I want to sincerely thank all the family and friends who supported us during this difficult time, as well as everyone who sent thoughtful messages to my children and me.”

A friend of Webb shared on social media: "The last 24 hours have felt like a nightmare that I've been hoping to escape."

"You were truly the greatest friend anyone could ever hope for. It breaks my heart that you’ve had to leave us and become an angel, watching over me, your family, the kids, and Dane."

"I will always cherish and long for you. This isn’t a farewell, just a see you later for now, Amy. Things will never be quite the same."

Webb was employed in the cosmetics field and resided in Wotton-under-Edge, a town in Gloucestershire.

Save Face started a campaign in December to demand a halt to Brazilian butt lift surgeries in the UK. Collins expressed, "We clearly stated that without immediate action, someone would lose their life. I am heartbroken to hear about Alice’s death. It fills me with deep sadness and anger that her passing was something that could have and should have been avoided."

Liquid Brazilian butt lift procedures pose significant risks. Although they are promoted on social media as ‘safe’ and ‘affordable’ substitutes for traditional surgery, this perception is far from accurate.

"We have assisted more than 500 women who experienced serious complications from these treatments, with several of them being on the brink of death."

Collins mentioned that over 50% of the cases reported to Save Face developed sepsis, a severe and potentially fatal response to an infection. Additionally, two out of five individuals required surgical procedures to rectify the issues.

She stated: “I recommend that anyone thinking about these treatments steer clear of them entirely. The dangers far exceed any potential advantages.”
