U18 Match Recap: United Vs. Blackburn

Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 1:34 PM.

On Saturday, Manchester United's Under-18 team achieved an impressive win at their Carrington training ground, overpowering Blackburn Rovers with a score of 9-0 in the Under-18 Premier League match.

Adam Lawrence's team quickly established a five-goal lead by halftime, with Gabriele Biancheri scoring twice, along with goals from Zach Baumann, James Scanlon, and Dante Plunkett in the opening half.

The second half continued at the same pace, with Scanlon netting three more goals, bringing his total to four. Substitute Godwill Kukonki also added to the score with a goal of his own.

Rovers midfielder Jackson Shorrocks received a red card during stoppage time after being shown a second yellow card.

James Scanlon brought home the match ball after netting four goals at Carrington.

A mistake in the Blackburn defense in the opening minutes gave Biancheri the chance to score, and he confidently placed the ball past Blake Wolsoncroft just five minutes into the game.

Baumann then increased our lead with a powerful low shot from his left foot, cutting through a crowd of players and finding the bottom left corner of the goal perfectly.

Biancheri found the net once more after only 31 minutes, thanks to some great teamwork with Tyler Fletcher. This setup made it a simple job for the 18-year-old to score, extending the lead to 3-0.

Scanlon's first goal of the match came shortly after, as the Gibraltar international struck decisively at the near post, with Fletcher once again playing a key role in setting it up.

Plunkett joined the action just before halftime to increase the score to 5-0. He executed a lovely play with Biancheri and finished it off by slotting the ball in from a short distance, marking his first goal for the team.

Lawrence decided to implement three substitutions in the first 15 minutes of the second half. One of those substitutions, Jim Thwaites, made an immediate impact by assisting Scanlon, bringing the score to 6-0 in favor of the Reds.

A corner kick from the right came to Kukonki unexpectedly, allowing him to score our seventh goal of the match. However, United still had more goals left in them.

Scanlon achieved his hat-trick when Fletcher set him up with a fantastic backheel pass, which made it easy for the 18-year-old to score from just a few steps away.

The excitement wasn't over yet, as Scanlon added to the score in the final moments of the game. He charged through the Rovers' midfield and sent a shot curling into the net, bringing the score to an incredible 9-0 in favor of United.

Gabriele Biancheri has been on a scoring spree for United this season.

Scorers: Scanlon scored in the 36th, 63rd, 76th, and 84th minutes, while Biancheri found the net at 5 and 31 minutes. Baumann netted a goal in the 30th minute, Plunkett scored at 44 minutes, and Kukonki added to the tally in the 66th minute.
