A Scathing ‘Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice' Test Reaction — World of Reel
The film "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice" by Tim Burton was screened twice last month in California. The reviews were not amazing, but also not terrible. I personally spoke with someone who said they liked it to a certain extent. A preview was just recently published.
There's another opinion I came across. I had a conversation with someone yesterday and they expressed their surprise at how terrible the movie ended up being. It's worth noting that this individual is a huge admirer of the 1988 original and believes that the follow-up didn't live up to the standard set by the classic film.
The movie didn't meet expectations. Keaton gave a great performance, but unfortunately, the rest of the movie was terrible. The trailer is proof of this. Winona Ryder's hairstyle is exactly the same as when she was a teenager, but now she's 50 years old. At Jeffrey Jones’ funeral, the children sing Day-O, which was in the first movie, making it feel like they were trying too hard to reference the original movie instead of creating something new and unique. Catherine O'Hara played a character similar to the one she portrayed in Schitts Creek. The story was mediocre and had too many references to the original. Some of the plotlines didn't develop, and Willem Dafoe and Monica Bellucci were not utilized effectively. Justin Theroux's acting was annoying. The visuals looked cool, but there weren't as many practical effects as advertised. The movie centered around family drama, which at times looked cheap. The shrunken head people made a reappearance, and a baby Beetlejuice made an appearance as well. Despite low expectations, the film left much to be desired. The original Beetlejuice was better in every way. It wasn't terrible, but definitely not good. Half of the audience was invested in the movie, but the other half loudly complained after the screening. As one woman left the theater, she shouted "Tim Burton, you raped my childhood!" Although it's uncertain if Burton was in the theater at the time, I didn't see him.
The follow-up to the film 'Beetlejuice' features a cast comprised of Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Catherine O'Hara, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe. It is set to be shown in movie theaters on the 6th of September by Warner Bros.
