Sources shared insights with three news organizations about the reasons behind the couple's breakup during the holiday season. They also expressed varying opinions regarding the future of Keoghan and Carpenter.

According to a source, it appears that the couple might have a chance to rekindle their relationship in the future. "They are both focused on their careers and still young, so they've chosen to take some time apart," the insider shared.

A source from Us Weekly is confident that the couple is officially done. The insider mentioned, “Sabrina and Barry have split up. They took a short break a few months back, but this separation just happened.” The source also noted that their friends doubt “they will reconcile.”

An insider from Entertainment Tonight provided some updates on Carpenter's mindset. They mentioned, "Barry and Sabrina's relationship has had its ups and downs, and at the moment, they're not together." The source pointed out that Sabrina is currently trying to determine her own desires and is concentrating on her career. They also shared a balanced view on the couple's future, stating, "it's possible they might reconcile."

Carpenter and Keoghan were spotted dining together for the first time on December 3, 2022. The news about their split was released yesterday, marking exactly one year since their initial sighting.

The pair finally revealed their relationship to the world in March. Carpenter was performing as the opening act for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, and Keoghan was present at a concert in Singapore. After one of the shows, Carpenter was captured on video as she joyfully ran into his embrace. In May, they made their first significant red carpet appearance together at the Met Gala.

In March, Carpenter shared her thoughts on dating with Cosmopolitan. She mentioned, “For me, a lot of it feels like it’s meant to be. I realize that sounds vague, but I’m not someone who actively seeks it out. The relationships I want to invest my time and energy in need to be really captivating or energizing because they pull me away from the things I cherish. It’s definitely a fun and chaotic experience. Right now, I'm simply enjoying all the excitement that comes with these new encounters.”

In September, she shared with W magazine that she prefers to keep her romantic life private. "I understand why people are curious," she explained, "but they can listen to my album and figure out the meanings of the songs on their own."
