Australian Open live: Carlos Alcaraz wins third set against Alexander Zverev – latest updates

Alcaraz

Greetings and a warm welcome to our live updates of the final men's quarter-final game at the Australian Open. Competing today are Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.

The two players have met eight times before, and Zverev has won four of those matches. In Melbourne, Zverev has played for a longer time and competed in more sets than Alcaraz. However, the German player claims that he still has lots of energy left.

He stated that if you decrease your playtime, you will experience more energy, but he personally does not feel the same. The US Open was an example where he felt entirely drained and physically fatigued.

I feel fatigued after playing two out of three matches until a 7-6 score in the fifth set, but I am still alive and not completely drained. My physical condition is not as poor as it was during the US Open.

To be truthful, I predict it will be quite distinct.

Alcaraz has set his sights on advancing towards a likely final confrontation with the top-ranked player in the world, Novak Djokovic, on Sunday. He expressed that he is brimming with self-assurance and belief in his abilities.

"I am improving with each passing day," he exclaimed. "My performance is also getting better in every game I participate in. With immense faith in my abilities, I am excitedly anticipating the quarterfinals."

I am planning to use my current level of confidence to my advantage. However, when facing Sascha in the quarterfinals, I hope to perform even better than I did today.

He's an exceptional player who has defeated some formidable opponents in this tournament. I personally enjoy playing against him despite how challenging it always is. To keep up, I have to give my all and bring my A-game every time. Playing against him ensures that I play at 100% capacity.

When we last competed against each other, I was defeated. Thus, I must concentrate on this and work on improving my skills from that game. Despite this, I am looking forward to the upcoming match and the chance to compete in the quarter-finals against him.

I believe that the spectators will also enjoy the game immensely.

On Friday, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic are set to face off in the first semi-final. The winner will take on either Alcaraz or Zverev, with Daniil Medvedev eagerly awaiting the outcome.
