INTERVIEW: Josh Eccles talks Leeds win, his assist and birthday celebrations

Leeds

Josh Eccles had an unforgettable birthday when he assisted City in their 2-1 victory over Leeds United at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The mid-fielder had an outstanding game, which was complemented by an excellent pass that led to Haji Wright's goal during the second half.

After the game ended, Eccles expressed his initial thoughts on the victory and elaborated on why it held a significant meaning to him.

"I'll never forget this experience. It was the best way I could've spent my time. I'm still feeling restless and invigorated with all the adrenaline and energy. Honestly, I'm speechless right now!"

As soon as I opened my eyes today, I was thrilled to begin playing. During the game, I felt that we had control over it, and I believed that we all did an excellent job.

Over the course of this week, Adi (Viveash) and our team have been focusing on various strategies, particularly on improving our defense. I must say that I am really impressed with how things turned out today. Although our opponents scored a goal, I had made multiple attempts to tackle the player before he was able to shoot. It's impressive how skilled he is.

In my opinion, the reason for this victory is quite apparent- it is my birthday. The fact that we overpowered Leeds on this special day, along with the current position of the team, just four points away from play-offs, has made this a memorable occasion. Additionally, watching the Norwich match has given us a much-needed boost to secure a victory and earn those three crucial points.

We previously stated that Norwich would not force us to alter our style of play, and it didn't. This made me content because I feel that we couldn't have played any better during that game. Our team's performance was outstanding, and I am pleased that we earned three points.

Regarding the goal made by Ellis Simms:

I'm not sure what he's been eating, but he's been performing well! It's been a slow start to the season for him, but people were saying he just needed time to get into the swing of things.

He has finally adjusted and there's no stopping him now. He is locating the perfect spots and exhibiting a bit of assertiveness. Whenever he jumps for a confrontation, we're certain it'll be a fair one-on-one battle.

Wow, he had an older man in a tight hold for quite a while! This shows the improved skills of Ellis, he is now at the highest level.

How he contributed to the second goal...

I want to give Milan some recognition because he used his speed to run across half of the field and made a smart decision by stopping and waiting for the rest of the team to catch up.

When he laid eyes on me, I promptly made a slight move and spotted Haji (Wright). I decided to loft the ball to the far post and observe his actions. His execution was phenomenal!

Regarding the calmness of Simms and Wright...

"He managed to deceive the goalkeeper with an unexpected move. It was a remarkable feat, to put it simply. The goal was the result of a magnificent team effort and ultimately led to our victory, which we are gladly accepting!"

He has been performing exceptionally well in terms of scoring goals. It took quite some time for him and Ellis to reach this level of performance, but now, they have scored a total of sixteen and seventeen goals this season.

We should not expect anything more, and I am confident that in the upcoming season, they will double their performance.

The ball was cleared by Jake Bidwell's head and went over the crossbar.

"That's a move only skilled players can pull off! He's put himself in a tight spot, moving quickly towards the goal, but he's successfully redirected the ball out of bounds for a corner kick."

Bidders is one of a kind! He is a steadfast defender and takes great joy in keeping his opponents at bay. It's clear that he lives for these moments, and I was completely blown away by his passion.

Afterwards, I approached him and exclaimed, "What in the world? It was unbelievable!"

There are still six games left to be played and a lot of points are still up for grabs. The outcomes of the matches could go either way, as there are no guarantees.

If we take a look at our performance from the previous season, it appeared as though we weren't going to make it. Nonetheless, we managed to pull through and went on a streak of sixteen games without a loss, securing our position smoothly.

After analyzing our upcoming matches, we acknowledge that we have some challenging competitors ahead, yet we cannot afford to lose faith in our team. Judging by their impressive performance today, it is highly likely that they will perform just as well in the next six games.

We are fully entitled to try and succeed. The outcome is beyond our control, but if we continue to obtain those crucial three points, the possibilities are endless.

In examining Cardiff's performance, it was clear that we deserved victory. However, this is how the Championship can be at times, and we are now bracing ourselves for two difficult games in a row.

The current status of his performance this season...

I feel glad and thrilled when I play, especially for my hometown team, Coventry City.

I aim to make as many appearances as I can, keep providing assists and potentially score a few more goals. I absolutely enjoy playing here!

A vast group of people gathered at the CBS Arena in an unprecedented number.

I glanced up at the sign that read thirty thousand.

Today's noise level was remarkable – possibly the highest we've experienced all season. It provided us with an added boost of five to ten percent.

When you listen to the cheers for the players, including mine, it gives you an urge to take action! Not necessarily in a physical way, but to get involved in a tackle, create a great pass, or make an impactful move.

"It transforms your entire character and approach to the game. It supports us in every possible manner and its effects were evident today."

Marking the occasion of the game today...

My wife is treating me to a night out tonight, and I'm thinking of playing a quick game of golf tomorrow morning before catching the Man Utd-Liverpool match.

"There's nothing more thrilling than this!"
