Zverev Angers Press, Refuses Probe Into Resolved Abuse Suit With Ex-girlfriend

Alexander Zverev was extremely angry with journalists who had inquired about his alleged assault case with his ex-partner.

In May 2020, there was an altercation between the 27-year-old tennis player from Germany and Brenda Patea. As a result of this argument, the tennis player was accused of causing physical harm to Brenda Patea and negatively impacting her health.

Nevertheless, the dispute was finally resolved on Friday without going to trial, concluding a long-standing disagreement. The court in Berlin did not issue a judgment, and Zverev did not confess to any wrongdoing.

Before his French Open final match against Carlos Alcaraz, Zverev looked extremely unhappy and stated that he is not guilty and pleaded with reporters to stop questioning him about the matter anymore.

He mentioned: 'I always mentioned this in the beginning. I informed everyone and I am pleased that it has ended'.

Alexander Zverev got angry at journalists when they questioned him about his case regarding assault.

Brenda Patea (on the left) claimed that Alexander Zverev (on the right) had physically assaulted her during their past relationship.

After resolving his abuse case outside of court, Alexander Zverev, a French Open finalist, was clear in stating his disinterest in hearing any more inquiries on the topic. He chose strong language to convey his feelings.

When asked if he felt uneasy about settling the case without being declared innocent by the court, Zverev replied by saying that dropping the case equals being innocent.

If you have committed the crime, they will not dismiss the charges in the end. I am unsure about the interpretation you have, but that is the overall message.

Finished. Let's move forward. I have no desire to address that topic again, and that applies to everyone.

The court in Berlin had instructed Zverev to pay a penalty of nearly £392,000 as he was found guilty of physically assaulting Patea, his partner and mother of his child, on October 2 of the previous year.

The person who is 27 years old didn't accept the accusations made against him and challenged the punishment decision. This resulted in a trial that was open to the public and started on May 31 in Berlin.

Zverev and Patea have resolved their case outside of court and the tennis player has not made any admissions of guilt.

During the initial day of the legal proceedings, the accuser and defendant presented their respective stances. The prosecuting party put forward the claim that the professional ATP Tour tennis player is accused of forcefully shoving Patea against a wall, as well as choking her with both of their hands, subsequent to a heated exchange that took place in a Berlin apartment.

According to Alfred Dierlamm, the defence lawyer for Zverev, the allegations against his client are baseless and don't make sense when put together. He further explained that as the court proceedings continue, messages and testimony from various witnesses will offer an impartial view of what occurred.

The legal proceedings were meant to carry on until June and July and there was a chance that Zverev might skip Wimbledon - taking place from July 1 to July 14.

There was a possibility that the German player might have been called to court during the French Open. However, it seems that he has stayed in Paris for the past two weeks as he was not obligated to appear in the trial in person.

It is believed that Zverev and Patea were in a romantic relationship for a period of less than a year from 2019 to 2021, during which time they welcomed their daughter Mayla into the world.

According to reports, Patea (seen in the left-hand side of the picture) accused Zverev of committing physical assaults against her in 2020. In addition to this, she asserted that he had choked her.

In the final match of the French Open, the player ranked fourth in the world will compete against Spain's Carlos Alcaraz.

On Friday, Zverev became victorious against Casper Ruud in the semi-final match of the men's singles at Roland Garros. This came after he defeated Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals on Wednesday in a challenging encounter that lasted three sets.

In the initial phase of the competition, he defeated Rafael Nadal, who had previously won the French Open 14 times. Rumors began floating around before the prestigious tournament suggesting that this could have been the last time the Spaniard would participate at Roland Garros.

Ranked fourth in the world, this individual won their first title of the current season in May at the Rome Masters. They have been scheduled to compete against the Spanish player Alcaraz in the upcoming final match on Sunday.
