Daejaun Campbell named as Woolwich zombie knife victim

Zombie knife

The 15-year-old boy who tragically lost his life after being attacked with a knife resembling those seen in zombie films in Woolwich has been identified.

Daejaun Campbell was discovered with a stab wound on Eglinton Road shortly after 6:30 PM BST on Sunday. Unfortunately, he passed away at the location.

Police have taken two men, one 52 years old and the other 18, into custody on suspicion of murder. They are currently being held for further investigation.

Detectives looking into the case have once more reached out to witnesses and anyone with information about Daejaun's death, asking them to get in touch.

A local woman shared with BBC London that she answered the injured boy's phone when it rang and was able to call a friend to come to help him.

"I was going back and forth with the boy on the ground, trying to offer him some comfort. He kept saying, 'I’m 15' and asking me to call his mom," the witness recounted.

Authorities have stated that their inquiry into Daejaun's death is still in its preliminary phases, and they are working to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry expressed his sympathy by stating, "I am thinking of Daejaun's family and friends as they navigate the pain of this tragic event."

He expressed, "I'm reaching out once more to see if you have any information regarding the passing of young Daejaun."

"Have you noticed anything unusual near Eglinton Road? Did you witness anyone fleeing the scene? If you have any video recordings, please reach out to the police."
