Zachary Levi, the star of Shazam!, has expressed his support for Donald Trump in the presidential race, following the withdrawal of his initial preferred candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who exited the contest last month.
The DC actor showed up at a Donald Trump rally in Michigan on Saturday to express his backing for the former president.
"I'm not going to take up too much of your time, but I wanted to provide some background on why Shazam is here discussing these different topics with you," Levi explained, referring to his superhero role.
I was raised in a Christian conservative household, which shaped a lot of my perspective. My parents were originally Kennedy Democrats but later became Reagan Republicans. They instilled in me a cautious skepticism towards both the government and unchecked corporate power.
"For a long time, I thought to myself, 'I really wish I could find a politician who aligns with everything I believe in and hope to see in a presidential candidate.' This year, I discovered Bobby Kennedy, and I felt like, 'Wow, this is the guy. He's genuine.' In an ideal world, whatever that may look like, I would probably choose to vote for Bobby. But unfortunately, we don’t live in an ideal world. In reality, we exist in a broken society, one that has been overtaken by individuals who want to lead this country off the edge. We need to put a stop to that, right?"
Levi expressed, "We're committed to reclaiming this nation, revitalizing it, and restoring its health. I'm here in solidarity with Bobby, Tulsi, and all those who support President Trump. In my view, we have only two options, and Donald Trump is the one capable of leading us to our goals. He will succeed because he has the backing, support, wisdom, knowledge, and determination that figures like Robert Kennedy Jr. and former representative Tulsi Gabbard bring to the table."
Last month, Kennedy put his campaign on hold and backed Trump along with his running mate, JD Vance.
Kennedy, known for controversially sharing during his campaign that a parasitic worm had settled in his brain and ultimately died there, spent millions to achieve his current five percent share of the anticipated national vote in November. Surveys indicated that this number was still falling, and his entire family distanced themselves from his run for office.
In January 2023, just two months ahead of the debut of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Levi surprised his followers with his reply to a tweet questioning whether the Covid-19 vaccine producer Pfizer posed “a genuine threat to the world.”
"I completely agree," he posted.
Although the first Shazam! movie in 2019 was met with a positive response, the sequel turned out to be a major disappointment both critically and financially. As a result, the film's director, David F. Sandberg, has decided to step away from the superhero genre altogether.
Levi later spoke out several times, criticizing how critics treated Fury of the Gods.
