The College welcomes the new Home Secretary | College of Policing

Yvette Cooper

Police Commissioner Sir Andy Marsh shared his thoughts on the establishment of a new government on July 5, 2024.

After HM The King asked Sir Keir Starmer to become the Prime Minister and appointed Rt. Hon Yvette Cooper MP as Home Secretary, the Chair and I are congratulating Ms. Cooper and her team. Our letter will reaffirm the College's dedication to remaining attentive to the government and the Home Secretary, who our Board reports to, as we all work together to support policing and keep the public secure.

I met with the new Home Secretary who has extensive experience reviewing policing and the Home Office in detail. We have found several ways the College can help achieve the government's priorities in policing, such as in neighborhoods, addressing violence against women and girls, improving productivity, and maintaining standards. We are already making progress on these important issues, but there is still more work to be done.

We are excited to meet with the new Ministers and talk about how the College's emphasis on enhancing leadership, standards, and performance will help the police in providing better service and protection to the public.
