T20 Cricket World Cup: Underdog U.S. Advances To 2nd Round—Thanks To A Rained-Out Match

The American men's cricket team has made it through to the second round of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup. Although regulations permit a game to be cut short in the event of a break in the downpour, the continued rain, wet terrain, and areas of accumulation of water in certain parts of Broward County made this exemption impractical.

Typically, cricket matches are held in open-air arenas, similar to the one located in Lauderhill. The regulations for the game dictate that if it starts raining, the match must be halted and the playing field must be protected with a cover.

There is a flood watch in effect for Lauderhill until 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The temperature is expected to rise to 86 degrees.

The tournament is the global championship of the "Twenty20" (T20) format, which is the youngest and briefest version of international cricket, with matches usually taking around three-and-a-half hours.
