Share Your Wordle Results Without Spoilers

Wordle includes a feature that allows you to share your results without revealing the actual word of the day. When you share, recipients can only see the colors in your grid, which indicate your performance, without giving away the specific word.

To show off your Wordle results, just finish (or fail) today's puzzle, and give it a moment for the stats panel to pop up on your screen. After that, click on the "SHARE" button.

On a PC, you can easily copy the text to your clipboard, allowing you to paste it wherever you like, whether that’s in a private message or a social media post. If you’re using an iPhone or Android, tapping the "SHARE" button gives you the choice to either copy the text to your clipboard or share it directly with another app on your phone, like WhatsApp or Twitter.

Utilizing Wordle's built-in sharing option is a far better method for sharing your results without ruining the game for others who haven't played today’s Wordle yet. We strongly recommend taking advantage of this feature!

Playing Wordle: A Simple Guide

Wordle is delightfully easy to understand. The goal is to figure out the right five-letter word within six attempts. With each guess, the letters will change colors: green if they are in the right position, yellow if they are in the word but in the wrong spot, and grey if they aren't in the word at all.

With these hints, you can begin to zero in on the right answer. Visit the Wordle website to give it a go!

The Origins Of Wordle: A Brief Story

Wordle started out as a small game designed by software engineer Josh Wardle for him and his partner to enjoy together during the pandemic. They soon discovered that this straightforward guessing game had a unique charm. After making some improvements, Wardle decided to share it with everyone on his website, Power Language.

The game launched in October 2021, and by the close of that year, it had attracted two million daily users. It quickly became a sensation, largely due to how simple it was for players to share their scores without revealing any spoilers on platforms like Twitter and other social media. In January 2022, Wardle agreed to sell Wordle to the New York Times for a substantial seven-figure amount. Congratulations, Mr. Wardle—truly impressive!

Which Words Are Not Allowed In Wordle?

You can enter nearly any five-letter word in English as a guess in Wordle. However, the solution chosen each day comes from a more limited selection of more frequently used five-letter words. While there are still thousands of potential answers, this means that the daily solution won't be an unusual word like "THIOL," "CAIRD," or "MALIC" (and yes, those are actual words).

Sometimes, the New York Times opts not to use certain words as the daily Wordle answer, likely due to recent news or political sensitivities. For instance, when the possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned emerged in the U.S., the NYT replaced the March 30th word "FETUS" with "SHINE." The decision was made because "fetus" was seen as too controversial given the current situation.

The New York Times has made it a point to avoid including what they deem inappropriate words in their Wordle puzzles. However, you’re free to use any words you want as guesses—even the most vulgar ones—as long as they are valid dictionary words. Just keep in mind that these words won't ever be the correct answer.

Is Wordle Becoming Too Easy For You?

If you find Wordle has become too straightforward, there are some options to increase the difficulty. One option is to activate Hard Mode. You can easily do this by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner of the Wordle website. In Hard Mode, any letters that are highlighted must be included in all subsequent guesses. This feature prevents you from relying on the usual strategy of using pairs of words like "OUNCE" and "PAINS" to check all five vowels right away.

You can elevate the challenge by adopting what we refer to as "Ultra-Hard" rules. In this mode, every guess you make must be a possible answer. For instance, if you were playing on Hard Mode and guessed "MOIST," with the "O" turning yellow, you could then choose "POLAR" for your next guess, even though you know the "O" cannot be in that position. However, in "Ultra-Hard" mode, that's not permitted. You have to follow every hint closely, ensuring that each word you enter could actually be the correct answer.

If you find that Wordle has become too simple for you, consider exploring the various Wordle-inspired games available online that have emerged in the past year. One of our top picks is Worldle, where you need to identify a country based on its outline. There's also Waffle, which involves rearranging letters in a filled grid to find all the words; Moviedle, which presents a brief clip of a movie and challenges you to identify it within six attempts; and Quordle, which requires you to solve four Wordles simultaneously using the same guesses.
