Report | Wolves 1-0 Sheff United
Wolves secured a triumphant victory over Sheffield United at Molineux, with Pablo Sarabia scoring the winning goal.
After half an hour, the Spanish player scored a goal by heading the ball into the net from a cross by Rayan Ait-Nouri. This resulted in their second consecutive victory and allowed Gary O'Neil's team to climb up three spots to the eighth position in the Premier League rankings.
The early phase of the game at Molineux was under the control of the wolves. They were playing with an attacking mentality, keeping hold of the ball and putting great effort to get back the lost position.
The Old Gold team posed a threat to their opponents, but they were unable to make a significant opportunity to score a goal. Despite this, Sarabia made a clever pass into the penalty area from a corner and Joao Gomes met the ball with his head. Unfortunately, the midfielder wasn't able to direct the ball into the goal as it sailed just over the crossbar.
Despite not dominating the game, Rhian Brewster had two opportunities to score at the back post. His initial shot was unsuccessful as it was deflected by Craig Dawson's midsection. However, he persisted and attempted a follow-up shot which was impressively saved by Jose Sa.
A little while later, the identical gentleman was released towards the Blades' right-hand side, after receiving a flick on from Brewster, who was nearing the penalty area. Toti made an effort to retrieve the situation and performed excellently by hurrying to the spot and barely managing to influence the attacker, whose shot ended up wide of Sa's left post.
Although the visitors seemed formidable during a strong start by Wolves, it was actually O'Neil's team who scored first at the 30-minute mark. The home team played methodically as Pedro Neto got the ball at midfield and then passed it to Ait-Nouri. Ait-Nouri then passed it to his right foot and sent a cross into an area where Sarabia jumped up and skillfully headed the ball into the top corner.
The wolves were feeling lively and Neto appeared to be a threat. With some room on the left side of the field, the Portuguese player almost made the most of it. He moved inwards and launched a shot that was consistently rising above the goalpost.
The game is at the half-way point with Wolves leading Sheffield United by one goal.
During the beginning of the second half, Sheffield United maintained a position close to the opposition's side of the field which resulted in the home team being restricted to playing within their own half. After regaining possession of the ball, James McAtee attempted a shot that narrowly missed the goal post.
During the game, there was a sudden move on the left side that almost led to a tie for the Blades. McAtee saw Brewster at the back of the post and passed to him. He made a hit towards the goal, but it wasn't enough to challenge Sa. The goalkeeper managed to save it easily with a low effort.
As the guests looked for a way to even out the score, the Wolves team had their sights set on scoring another goal. Gomes and Sarabia worked together in a smooth and coordinated way, almost resulting in that second goal. Sarabia got the ball from Gomes, and then took a powerful shot from far away that had a lot of force, but unfortunately missed the mark and went wide.
Wolves switched to playing with four defenders after Tommy Doyle came onto the pitch, but Chris Wilder took a risk and subbed in Ben Osborn. With only eight minutes left to play and the outcome uncertain, he made three substitutions at once.
As the game approached its 90th minute mark, there was a glimmer of hope for the Blades with the score standing at one. Jack Robinson threw the ball long, causing disruption in the Wolves' penalty box. The ball was tipped to the back post, but Auston Trusty unfortunately could not make a decisive impact.
The team playing at their own stadium had to manage an extra five minutes of play, but they were able to do it without any difficulties. This led Wolves to gain a total of 38 points and improve their position up to the eighth place.
