BBC viewers are thrilled to see the long-awaited Tudor drama Wolf Hall make a comeback after being off the air for nine years.

The historical series, inspired by Hilary Mantel's book of the same title, tells the story of Oliver Cromwell (played by Mark Rylance), who serves as an advisor to King Henry VIII. It depicts Cromwell's rise to power while navigating the court's complexities. In this narrative, the king (portrayed by Damian Lewis) weds Jane Seymour after the execution of his second wife, Anne Boleyn.

Mantel, who passed away in 2022, published The Mirror and the Light in 2020. This book is the concluding part of her trilogy that started with Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies, and it focuses on the last four years of Henry VIII's reign.

The latest season, which premiered on Sunday, November 10, has received an abundance of positive reviews from critics, and fans are excited to see the show back on air.

A viewer commented: “Thank goodness for #WolfHall and #TheMirrorAndTheLight. Absolutely fantastic. It’s heartbreaking to witness Mary break down from both grief and relief. What a harrowing existence they endured. Henry's tyranny is portrayed exceptionally well, making it even more unsettling given the current state of the world. Great job everyone, and thank you!”

One person likened the show's excellence to the acclaimed American crime drama The Wire, stating, "The BBC's version of Wolf Hall is outstanding, comparable to The Wire in its brilliance. The tension is through the roof. Season two has lived up to expectations."

One viewer mentioned that the series had captured their interest, even though they had been let down by the recent programs from the BBC.

"I believe the BBC has been on a downward trend for quite some time. However, occasionally, it produces something truly exceptional. Take 'Wolf Hall,' for instance. A much-awaited second season that is fantastic. The writing, performances, scenery, and music are all remarkable."

"Wolf Hall takes you right into the heart of the Tudor era, both visually and emotionally. When Mary wept..." shared a different admirer.

In a four-star review of the series' comeback, Nick Hilton from The Independent describes it as a tale about history and the actions of people long gone, highlighting how the pressing nature of the present can solidify into an unchanging past. He also points out that, amidst all this, it’s an entertaining narrative about the struggle to avoid losing your head.
