Andy Murray, the British tennis player, revealed that he will not be participating in the men's singles event at Wimbledon this year. However, he is still aiming to compete in the men's doubles tournament.

His group announced: "Regrettably, even though he has put in a lot of effort into getting better since his surgery a little over a week ago, Andy has made the tough choice not to compete in the singles matches this year."

He is very let down, but he has decided to play doubles with Jamie and is eager to compete at Wimbledon for the final time.

The 37-year-old had earlier said he was going to stop playing tennis after the Olympics in Paris this summer.

The announcement is particularly significant for British athletes at Wimbledon today, as British top-ranked player Katie Boulter begins her matches on Court Three and Jack Draper competes on Centre Court later in the day.

Previous top British male player, Cameron Norrie, reached the semifinals in 2022 but was defeated by Novak Djokovic. Now he is returning and may have a match against Draper in the second round.

Emma Raducanu emerged victorious in her first match of the tournament on Monday, revealing that she drew motivation from England's gritty triumph against Slovakia at the Euros by embracing the concept of "winning ugly".

Andy Murray stated on Thursday that he would wait until the final moments to determine if he will be able to play at Wimbledon one last time.

He was racing against the clock to be able to compete after withdrawing from the Queen's Club tournament last month because of an injury.

The ex-top-ranked player underwent surgery after pulling out of Queen's tournament to have a spinal cyst removed. He was still aiming to play against Czech player Tomas Machac on Tuesday.

He was scheduled to play third on Centre Court, with the first match starting at 1.30pm, so he wouldn't have likely started until later in the day.

Andy Murray will be playing doubles at Wimbledon with his brother Jamie for the first time.

In an interview with Sky News recently, Sir Andy revealed that he lacks full sensation in his right leg, but he believes it is not too much to request to compete at Wimbledon once more.

He mentioned that his injury has gotten much better over the past week, but he is uncertain if it will be sufficient.

Yet in the end, he made the decision not to participate in the singles competition. However, he was thrilled to team up with his older brother for the doubles event.

"If I have the opportunity to play doubles with Jamie, it would be a truly unique experience. It would mean a lot to me, to Jamie, and to all of our family. We have never had the chance to do that before."
