First trailer for highly anticipated 'Wicked' movie starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo is out!

Wicked

Get ready, lovers of musicals! The much-awaited preview of the movie version of the famous Broadway production Wicked has finally come out!

Even after 20 years since its debut on Broadway, Wicked continues to enchant and captivate audiences with its empowering message of finding oneself, the value of friendship, and the bravery to face daunting challenges.

Featuring two amazing actresses, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who have won Grammy and Tony Awards, Wicked narrates what occurred before the storyline of The Wizard of Oz and explains how the once good-hearted Wicked Witch of the West turned so wicked.

The film features a cast that includes Michelle Yeoh in the role of the dignified headmistress, Madame Morrible. Jonathan Bailey, who has starred in popular shows like "Bridgerton" and "Fellow Travelers," plays the role of Fiyero, a charming and carefree prince. Tony nominee Ethan Slater, known for his work in Broadway’s "Spongebob Squarepants" and "Fosse/Verdon," plays Boq, a selfless student from the Munchkin community. Marissa Bode makes her feature-film debut in the role of Nessarose, Elphaba's beloved sister. And last but not least, the one and only Jeff Goldblum brings his star power to the role of the legendary Wizard of Oz.

The preview clip features Cynthia and Ariana crooning two of the most popular songs from the musical Wicked, namely, Defying Gravity and Popular. The duo crosses paths for the very first time at Shiz University when they become roomies.

When the movie 'Wicked' was first planned, it was intended to be only one part. Nonetheless, Jon M. Chu, the director, revealed in 2022 that they had to divide it into two parts since it was quite evident that squeezing the entire 'Wicked' story into one movie would be detrimental to the plot.

The well-liked theater production will be adapted into a two-part movie. The first installment will grace the big screen this upcoming November, while fans will have to wait until November 2025 for the release of the second part.
