The judges of The Great British Bake Off, Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, have declared Matty as the champion of the 2023 edition.

At the beginning of the contest, a dozen of pastry chefs showed up in the tent. In the end, just a single baker earned the right to win the award - that is to say, the crystal dessert display.

Upon learning of his victory, Matty, a 28-year-old Physical Education educator from Cambridgeshire, expressed uncertainty and surprise by saying, “I'm at a loss for words. My acquaintances had been advising me to partake in Bake Off, but I disregarded their suggestions as insignificant remarks and didn't pay much attention to them."

On the other hand, Matty was taken aback by his exceptional performance in the competition after signing up for it and working hard for ten weeks.

There have been numerous highs and lows throughout the past 10 weeks, and I have relied heavily on the support of those closest to me. I am sure I haven't been the most enjoyable person to live with during this time, and I appreciate the patience they've shown towards me. It's difficult to believe that it's all happening, and I am grateful for the love and encouragement from my loved ones.

Dan and Josh were the second place finishers in the closely contested final. They expressed their congratulations to Matty and acknowledged his deserving win.

"The final was a real challenge," Matty remarked. "We knew how evenly matched our baking abilities were. Having Dan and Josh as fellow finalists was wonderful, but it was a surprise to everyone when Tasha was eliminated in the semi-final. She was an excellent baker and a delightful person as well. We were all saddened to see her go."

According to Matty, the pupils in the educational institution where he instructs were amazed when they discovered his fondness for cooking pastries.

The three final contestants of the Great British Bake Off are Matty, Josh, and Danny.

I observed the concluding match while being at home with my partner Lara along with some other companions and relatives. The evening was truly enjoyable as we indulged in some champagne to celebrate the occasion and, naturally, I prepared some baked delights. The trophy has been diligently kept in a storage area in the attic but I believe it should be showcased in the dining room from here on out so that everyone can admire it.

I reckon the kids in my school were quite taken aback that I appeared in the series and there were some genuinely pleasant remarks made towards me. I'm certain they will be even more awed that I emerged victorious, although they will no doubt be caught off guard. They've been supporting me all through the series, so I'm certain they'll feel proud and elated to share in my triumph.

According to Matty, even though he was considered the lowest-ranked competitor in the series, he remained confident in his baking abilities, which he inherited from his grandmother.

"My grandma is my baking role model, she was an outstanding baker. She made two exceptional treats for me," he expressed. "One is a cake shaped like a chocolate teddy bear and the other was a cake with a theme inspired by the South Pole, which she made during Christmas."

Matty is diligently working away during the Great British Bake Off finale.

The winner of the baking competition, Matty, was praised by Judge Prue Leith for his positive attitude and eagerness to learn. According to her, he was always happy, had a beaming smile on his face, and never complained. He also demonstrated a great willingness to absorb any feedback and advice that either of the judges gave him.

In the meantime, the magistrate, Paul Hollywood, included that Matty's proficiencies have continued to "improve progressively" all through the program.

Hollywood praised Matty for doing well in the last challenge by mentioning that the chocolate cake he made was delicious and one of the best he had tasted in a while.

During the 2023 contest, the bakers showcased an array of treats ranging from a towering multi-layered cake to an assortment of animals, including the beloved Beaver cake. On pastry week, the bakers expertly crafted individual picnic pies, a delectable potato pithivier, and a wonderfully adorned dessert pie exhibit while skillfully steering clear of dreaded soggy bottoms.

Matty had a remarkable experience where he was acknowledged by Hollywood for his exceptional cooking skills. He managed to impress the judge with his scrumptious sausage rolls, and received a prestigious handshake. The judges were particularly impressed with the yummy taste, beautiful appearance, and delightful texture of his dish.

During an interview with Channel 4, he announced his intention to bake his own wedding cake for his upcoming nuptials with his fiancée Lara.

On November 30 at 8pm on Channel 4, Matty is going to appear on The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice along with Jo Brand, Tom Allen, and other talented bakers.
