Wendy Williams ‘Permanently Incapacitated’ Due To Dementia.
Wendy Williams, the former host of radio and television shows, has been declared permanently incapacitated by her guardian after being diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in 2023.
According to a court document shared by the New York Post, attorneys representing Williams' guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, stated that the 60-year-old Williams has experienced significant cognitive decline, has become permanently disabled, and is no longer able to function.
The legal action was connected to a dispute with Lifetime regarding the documentary titled "Where Is Wendy Williams?" Lawyers representing Williams argue that Lifetime’s parent company and the executive producer of the documentary exploited her cognitive and physical struggles. They assert that the documentary was made and released during a time when Williams was particularly vulnerable and not in a position to give her consent for filming.
Since May 2022, Williams has been placed under a court-appointed guardianship that manages her financial matters and healthcare.
In February, a statement was shared regarding her diagnosis, stating, “Wendy's supporters know that she has previously been candid about her health challenges, including Graves’ Disease and Lymphedema, as well as other serious issues. Over the years, people have occasionally questioned Wendy’s ability to comprehend information, and many have speculated about her health, especially when she struggled with words, displayed unusual behavior, and found it hard to manage financial matters. In 2023, after extensive medical evaluations, Wendy was officially diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), which have already created significant challenges in her life.”
Following a fruitful radio journey that featured her hosting afternoon shows on "98.7 Kiss-FM" WRKS and "Hot 97" WQHT in New York, Williams transitioned to television stardom as the host of her own daytime talk show, which concluded in 2022.
